    All my personal project git repos are private and not on GitHub. You can’t get my code, AI. Oh wait, it’s been like this since the beginning of time *muhahaha*

      @nixCraft I have noticed a significant increase in bots trying to brute-force the password of my self-hosted GitLab in the last few weeks.

        You don’t even need internet access, a remote host, or platforms like GitHub to track code changes, create branches, or view your history and so on. Everything works offline inside your project directory. Of course i am the sole developer for my own project 😉

          @nixCraft

          I like to imagine the opposite could also be true.

          Perhaps as the corporate AI consumes the wrong codebase, infused with the right amount of random memes and good code comments, rather than integrating data into itself, the incoming data integrates the AI into itself.

          I'm basically suggesting it could play out like that scene from Matrix Revolutions where Smith converts the Oracle. And then loses for doing so.

            @nixCraft And then there's WoodpeckerCI, which is an excellent and free, self-hosted alternative to GitHub Actions - but does, unfortunately, require GitHub web hooks, and therefore (at least a mirror) on GitHub itself.

              @nixCraft I've never understood the concept of turning business code over to a third party to manage.

                  @matth @nixCraft So even if you're using Forgejo or Codeberg you need GitHub for webhooks?!

                  I'm running a Forgejo instance so really I should know, except I haven't used its CI yet.
