Guerrilla warfare used to mean losing the occasional truck or collaborator. Now oil tankers and container ships are on the menu.

Iran can't possibly *win* a war against the US, but they can make everybody lose, and why wouldn't they? Why *shouldn't* they use that deterrent?

I don't think of "the US" as a unified entity with coherent knowledge and goals. One guy with no morals and lots of things wrong with his brain gets to start wars to distract from his well-documented child molestation, regardless of whatever the rest of "the US" knows. It's outside the remit of normal geopolitical analysis. Cursed as shit country that needs to get the right answer to history's most pressing Trolley Problem as soon as possible.

@petealexharris We've been seeing this thing for years with the Red Sea and the Huthis. I mean, we know how this works now.

The largest oil producer these days is...

...the USA. As much as Iran, Iraq, UAE, and Kuwait combined.

@petealexharris Plus they are at war with two of the world's nuclear powers now, so using the one fail-deadly they have seems like a natural choice.

@petealexharris Does that matter? Why do palestinians have to pay a price but americans and israelis don't?

i've said this over & over again for years, the USA has been the #1 or #2 oil-producing nation every year for quite a long time now & the fact that we're energy independent hasn't exactly been a classified secret-- crossover on your chart is ~ 2017!

none of these alleged "wars for oil" was needed for oil, they were needed so corrupt GOPs / defense contractors could keep filling their pockets

Well, don't forget that higher gas/oil prices are charged also by those companies not in the slightest affected by less access. So the US (and Russian) fossil industry should strongly welcome higher prices.

yes, the industry obviously desperately needed higher prices but it's all about filling the pockets of the few, i live in Louisiana, & i can promise that the great wealth created by our reserves & refineries sure hasn't been used to help our people
