⚠️ Don't update from /e/OS 4.0 to 4.1.1!

️ Don't update from /e/OS 4.0 to 4.1.1! The main reason is that @murena removed #Seedvault. They replaced it with their own backup app (based on Seedvault as I've heard) that only can backup to their own cloud! The problem with this is that you now have to pay for a backup, because who has a backup below 1GB.
Yes, you've heard it right, #Murena goes vendor lock-in! It's now 100% clear that it's not about a Google alternative, but about their own payed services (what is just a customized Nextcloud).
There are also some other bugs, that only will be fixed in 4.2 or 4.3, but nothing about the Seedvault removal. So people can't choose their backup location anymore. Multiple people asked on their forum, but no definitive answer was given. See here: https://community.e.foundation/t/feedback-for-v4-1-1.
This is not their first time they messed it up. They also removed Material You, so they force you to use blue accent colours.
Hopefully someone knows how to safely migrate to #LineageOS or another reliable custom ROM for a #Fairphone 6?

@joenepraat so the cloud i use, icedrive, that has an app on my phone that i use allll the time, will no longer work? Or it will work minus the autobackup?
and strong agree on murena getting it wrong. 2 years ago my phone stopped being accessible to me after an update, and i emailed them about it and all i got was sympathetic nonsense. Now I'm just very anxious whenever it has updates to install, i never know if my phone will be even harder to use after I click that button.

@joenepraat @murena I have the fdroid version of dav5x installed to solve a similar issue. Maybe you can just install seedvault and use it?

@anderslund I don't know, but any other back-up solutions requires rooting your phone. That's why Seedvault was created, as a solid build-in back-up solution for custom ROM's.

@joenepraat Eew. There are many features that I like very much in /e/os, but bing forced to use murena services is not appealing.
