@randahl he may have to tour with Pink and Kanye West now
@FrancoisPrague @randahl they could add Kid Rock and The Disturbed on. Imagine the tour album collection? It would literally sell tens of copies!

Own goal of the century:
British singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran's Loop tour boots American rapper Macklemore, after Macklemore condemns Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Result:
American singer Fineas quits the Loop tour.
Dublin singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe quits.
Danish pop singer Lucas Graham quits.
Ed Sheeran's own backing band Beoga quits.
The tour was supposed to continue until December, but all that is left is Ed Sheeran and the support for Israel's genocide.
@randahl To be honest: I do not know any of this people.

-
@randahl @paulk Sheeran’s statement on this was awful - a total cop out, doubling down on his desire to remain apolitical. Just terrible all around, considering we are dealing with a genocide.
Please look up statements by the bands that dropped out - they restored my faith in humanity.
Fuck Sheeran forever and ever (and I never say the F word, but damn)

#Pink deserves to be mentioned because it was Pink who triggered this entire drama. it was her who brought to the recent forefront criticism of #Macklemore for his support for #Palestine, he has been doing this on stage for years
also: she claims to be defending Jews. this isn't about Jews or antisemitism, it's about #Israel's actions
and I don't know when this world will finally understand the radioactively obvious fucking difference

@benroyce @randahl @FrancoisPrague that’s the point: it’s about calling a crime a crime. This whole “you’re just saying it because I’m <you name it>” is so exhausting.

@randahl what a turnaround. I just read Macklemore’s statement which was very well put and which is a great example of critique with leaving the door open for change.

@randahl I wasn't aware of Ed's support for Israeli nonsense. I shall do my part and remove him from all playlists.

Who in their right mind support that state?!

-
@benroyce @randahl @FrancoisPrague yes, I am with you there. Antisemitism is becoming stronger every day, which makes it harder to distinguish who is actually concerned about war crimes or just being antisemitic or a racist.

@lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague
yes, #antisemitism is on the rise in the world
so we talk about it and we oppose it
we *also* talk about and we oppose #Israel's genocidal actions
we do both
and those are completely unrelated, uncrossed topics
except in the words of complete idiots and manipulative liars

@randahl Ed Sheeran is the living meme of the pretend moderate who sets a middle ground between genocide and no genocide.

Sheeran was not so much pro-israel as "bowed down to an ultimatum from pro-Israel venue owners".
As much as such moral cowardice should be shamed, we need this light to be shone on Kraft and his ultimatum.
Sheeran should have made noise about it instead of trying to quietly shove the moral person off the tour.

@randahl Please add the bit about the venue owners' ultimatum.
Those are the ones we really need to get out into the open, because they're going to keep doing this, otherwise.

And let's recall: Zionism never had a plan that was not genocide.
Building an ethnostate where other people live == genocide.
How was this smoothed over for 70 years?

the problem being, there _are_ a lot of manipulative liars in this space. one does have to be super clear when talking about this topic, becuase there really are antisemites who will seize on Israel's actions as an excuse/justification/reinforcement for their own bigotry.
what a hot mess, but (back to the original topic) a spectacular own goal, I hope Ed Sheeran will take the time to consider his situation with clear eyes.

@randahl A lot of spin is incoming, just remember it's to avoid consequences, not because of some genuine change of heart. When he thought he could get away with it, he didn't care.
When people reveal who they really are, believe them.

@jannem @randahl I'd be surprised if new acts and a new backing band aren't already on planes. They just need a good drummer, and soloists who can learn their parts - everything else is likely already on a click track. Any pros they hire will learn the rest in a week.
Sheeran's website still has tickets on sale for this weekend. They might cancel one city, but they'll have a show next week - there's too much money at stake to not hire replacements.
@grumble209 @jannem @randahl So what new acts and new backing band will want to step into that clusterfuck right now? They will be the ones supporting genocide.

@grumble209 @jannem @randahl I hear they’re planning a new tour in Sudan, they just need the sponsor Lundin Oil to ethnically cleanse the area first.
