Goodbye Substank. The idea of handing over my biometric data to Peter Thiel is very attractive, but no . . . .

@Greg_Ray Btw I just LOVE the whole ideology behind this age verification CRAP:

"In order to protect children, we MUST endanger YOU. 🤡"

@Wuzzy @Greg_Ray The most absurd thing: In most jurisdictions you need to be an adult to get internet access, so online age verification is completely useless because people who are online are legally …

      … a) adults
… b) under the supervision of adults

@Greg_Ray people will think of the days GDPR popups annoying them as the good old days.

@Greg_Ray Wait, does the Online Safety Act really go so far that it doesn't even allow minors to READ BLOGPOSTS?

Or is this just propaganda from Substack so they have a lame excuse for their Persona deal?

Substack is not on the government list. So yes, just helping Thiel build his library of biometric data.

@Greg_Ray people have still been using substack, really?

so for them I guess some fascism is ok, perfectly acceptable to engage with and mainstream, but just not so much fascism that it affects them, right?

uh oh. think we might've seen that worldview somewhere before. highly recommend lowering the fascism tolerance threshold down to zero.

I just love how the information will be "deleted instantly after 7 days". So, after they have sold copies to everyone that wants it...

@Greg_Ray I'm surprised. Is this something Substack is asking users for globally? I know UK has laws that requires them to do it. I didn't know other countries had that requirement too - is that by law in Australia?

@falcennial @Greg_Ray "Fascism" is thrown around so much these days, maybe they think it's hyperbole?

It's not. Substack is hosting, promoting, profiting from and actively refusing to remove Neo-Nazi newsletters with swastikas all over them.

Seems Substank has just decided to do it off its own bat, maybe to help Thiel collect more biometric data.
