    Roman Mosaic Unearthed — Southwark, London, UK ❤ What Time Reveals (9 Photos): https://streetartutopia.com/2026/03/28/from-buried-mosaics-to-trees-shaping-themselves-around-bricks/

    Two archaeologists gently uncover a large Roman mosaic beneath a construction site near The Shard in central London. The vibrant geometric patterns, preserved underground for nearly 2,000 years, reveal a glimpse into an ancient dining room once part of a Roman mansio (guesthouse).

    @streetartutopia
    Wow!
    Manchester was also a Roman settlement. I wonder if there's more like that here.

        Nice! Not only the mosaics excavated a couple of years ago, but I also like the banyan tree roots!

          @streetartutopia

          what happens to these mosaics after they are uncovered, photographed and documented? are they turned back over to the property owners to be destroyed while continuing construction? are they removed somehow?

          what will happen to this mosaic in particular?

            And now my spouse has decided they want a mosaic tile floor when we redo our floor. There goes our retirement fund!

                Beautiful!
                Also raises the question of why the ancient Bretons didn't destroy it. Maybe they used it.

                      Googling (or using another preferred search engine) your question gets the answer, but it's too long to include in my reply. Obviously, it can't answer what will happen to this one, though...

                        There are a lot all over Western Europe. Why do people have to destroy them??? Just let things as they are, they will will be covered by grass in months and protected for 1.5 to 2 milleniums. People are probably already busy, why lose time and energy at destroying things? Which benefits???
