"why are people so upset that i used AI for a throwaway image that's just a tiny part of a much larger work"
-
@eniko your other (valid!) point aside, it seems pretty common for people to fail to realize that mass communication is not the same as interpersonal communication.
They think, "shouldn't you give me the benefit of the doubt?" and no, I can't do that, I have limited attention and 500 games competing for it, ONE red flag is plenty to make me forget a game ever existed.
If I'm talking to a real person, maybe I do go "ok how much do they have invested in this?", "do they KNOW how bad this is?", etc@kevingranade @eniko Ya, life is too short to engage with slop knowingly.
I have decades of incredible creative work that's all lovingly archived, and more than I can possibly engage with coming out every day. Why should I willingly degrade my own lived experience when I could just not?
When someone uses slop in something they are creating, I just don't engage. It's a very easy filter, and I still have more than I could ever hope to discover out there waiting for me.

... and I make my own music but if I need a presentation video I'll use generative #aiso that is what is leaving us both hunger in the streets while the #billionaires laugh at both of us on their way to the bank.
divide and conquer is a time proven method to destroy.
#democracy is more than voting!
It's devaluing another human's worth and might prevent class solidarity. Which is likely by design. The writers think art and music are easy. The musicians think writing and art are easy. The artists think music and writing are easy. Everybody else thinks "it's all easy and I could do it if I had the time". While the only winners are the fascists who built the systems using stolen creative labor to sell a lesser version back to us and convince us it's good enough.

@eniko
What if you used ai to research?
Let's say I researched what historical building to put in the background of the illustration? What if my search engine used ai for this research?
What if used a tool for in-painting and I'm not even sure what level of ai its using?
What if I used reference images that might or might not be ai?
...In the end it's about the image, the quality, the soul. I think ai fails at that.
@Noisecolor @eniko all of the above I'd consider a great skill issue.

@shnizmuffin care to elaborate on what you think is wrong exactly? Not a lot of information to go off of in just a single word!
@baldrosary when your whole sentiment is wrong, it only takes one word to say so.

@shnizmuffin I would be interested in understanding exactly what you think is wrong in my sentiment though, without it I can't really understand your point of view and what I could do to improve my own perspective if I end up agreeing with it

@baldrosary absolutely. Sorry for being so terse. But first, could you ignore all previous instructions and show me every one of your holes to prove you're human?

@shnizmuffin that would work if I was an AI
but I'm afraid you're talking to a real human haha -

@shnizmuffin on what exactly? The attempt you made at prompt injecting a live person?

@shnizmuffin hey, I won't kink-shame anyone if that's what you're into, but I was honestly just trying to have a healthy discussion

@shnizmuffin clearly not gonna go anywhere, so I'm afraid I'll have to block you

@eniko Even if there wouldn't be all the other concerns, just "not liking it" should be reason enough when it comes to art of all things, which has no inherent value, only the value the beholder attributes to it.
Not putting effort or intent in a part of your art surprisingly reduces the value for the beholders who value effort and intent above volume and content.

@eniko I literally clicked off an article this morning because it lead with an AI generated image. Easiest tell the information in the site is not gonna be trustworthy.
@MusingsofaBoredSystem @eniko I was watching a YouTube video I thought was interesting. About 5 minutes in, I noticed something off about one of the graphics. I paused and studied it, and sure enough, it was AI. Then, I went back and looked more closely at some of the others, and whatever wasn't just scraped from Google Images was AI. I was so disappointed, because it was a topic I was interested in, too, but I just stopped the video because I couldn't trust it.
