I love the fediverse but I still don't understand how to search on it, everything feels really divided and unaccessible.

I love the fediverse but I still don't understand how to search on it, everything feels really divided and unaccessible. When I go on a profile outside my own instance (like mastodon.social), I can't even see user's post. I understand the point of the fediverse but it feels broken as a tool of communication.
@MoritzBrouhaha if you want everything on the profile, you need to go on the remote instance and if you need to get or interact with a post not federated, you need to copy the url of the post and search it on your instance
not user friendly the slightest and could see as broken
Don't know if mastodon has the feature to fetch posts via a button instead of going through all that nonsense -

@MoritzBrouhaha I'll that if someone of your instance follow this account, every post would be fetched in real time
but yeah, it's a huge limitation of the protocol -

Here we go potentially hundreds of thousands of posts at once, every time someone from a new instance follows someone shitposting for years

@Varpie @tournesol it's not about that. It's about :
- finding an account not on your instance
- having access to his posts and being able to load them at least -

@tournesol @Varpie@peculiar.floristbut it doesn't make sense. I can see your posts if I click on your profiles. I have no problem with your instance. Why I can't have the same experience with mastodon.social for example ? And why I should know those obscur technical rules as a simple user?

@MoritzBrouhaha @Varpie@peculiar.floristbut I don't have an answer. we know about this cause we geeked a lot on the protocol but I agree it's in no way user friendly

Yup, that should help with searching, and there is also a fix for the "blank profiles" problem on the way. A profile may look blank if no one from your server has followed it before, but the fix will allow people to automatically load recent posts for that profile.
There are also workarounds for this blank profile issue, see the guide for more details about why it happens and what can be done about it: https://fedi.tips/why-does-someones-account-page-look-completely-blank-is-it-really-blank/
