So long old MacOS, welcome Linux Mint!
I'm installing Linux for the first time on one of my old Macs, and I'm really looking forward to this experience. I saw somewhere the recommendation was to dualboot, but hey. Dualboot is no fun and only takes up space.
(And it's safe in a mac, since you can't update firmware without it, but still - no fun)
@mosgaard Which distro supports a 8-10 yo iMac Intel best? Graphics, sound etc.
I have an old one that's trash from an Apple PoW, but it's still a neat machine. -

I have an old one that's trash from an Apple PoW, but it's still a neat machine.@johnrohde @mosgaard FWIW, I’m running Fedora (prevously Ubuntu) on my 2015 MBP. It works flawlessly.
Generally Intel Macs before 2017 are well supported on Linux, the only hassle is the proprietary Broadcom webcam firmware, but there are ways around that.
As for ARM-based Macs The Fedora Asahi respin is the way to go (or Asahi Linux itself). M1 and M2s are the ones that currently works best

@mosgaard @johnrohde If it's the 2018 model, I think you're out of luck due to the T2 security chip being a recurring pain in the ***.

@simonjust @johnrohde dagens konklusion er: At installere Linux på en ældre mac, kræver at man bruger kablet netværk eller netværk fra en telefon gennem USB.
Zorin OS var plug'n'play og havde styr på samtlige drivere.
Mint havde svært ved trådløst netværk.
CachyOS kom aldrig i gang.
Et styks velkørende MacBook med Zorin OS, kan nu gå sin sejrsgang i det lille hjem.
