omg look at this fully functional custom 3D printed laptop!!!

[willhbr@ruby.social]

@djlink a power tool battery??!! That is so cool!

[robdaemon@hachyderm.io]

@djlink YES

[howtophil@oldbytes.space]

@djlink * falls in love *

That laptop is beautiful

[dalias@hachyderm.io]

@djlink The BOM is missing the only thing I was interested in, the screen.

[nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social]

@djlink I need this. I'll die if I don't have this. Gimme.

[ska@social.treehouse.systems]

@dalias @djlink The screen was 3D-printed too, obviously

[mbeverding@mastodon.social]

@djlink love it. Wish this would be a standard for every electronic to unplug battery from work laptop or work drill to continue on your private computer lawnmower ect.

[djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place]

@MBEverding yeah I have a few of those batteries, would be interesting to give them more use

[senil@gts.social.senil.me]

@djlink the literal only thing I would change about this is to shove enough battery capacity (likely with pass-through charging?) to enable one to hot-swap the power tool batt. Otherwise I love everything about this.

hmm... makes me want to actually try to build my DIY Acer Ezel Hinge laptop but modern...

[lispi314@udongein.xyz]

@ska @dalias @djlink I wonder if it's some nameless aliexpress USB-c display.

[bigtittybimbo@autonomous.zone]

@djlink I wish laptop's like this were available to buy, even in kit form, rather than the boring thinkpad design that everyone (justifiably) loves.

[kaievans@mastodon.social]

@djlink this is amazing

[carbontwelve@notacult.social]

@dalias @djlink same, it looks almost identical to the portable USB/Micro HDMi one I use which can be picked up for about £50 on places like eBay.

Like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/820230174487

[carbontwelve@notacult.social]

@djlink thanks, I love it.

[aanee@mastodon.online]

@djlink I need a bigger 3D printer...

[feral_3d@mastodon.social]

@djlink I want one

[carbontwelve@notacult.social]

@dalias @djlink I’ll also add, I picked mine up for about £30 as a cheap stand temporary replacement and it’s been so surprisingly good that it became my main monitor.

[cowman@thecanadian.social]

@BigTittyBimbo @djlink problem with thinkpads, if it is old enough, the results nailed what a useable laptop is to be.

I like to think the X300 was peak form but am willing to accept a wide range of variation of opinion there, per the T25 polling.

[bob_zim@infosec.exchange]

@senil @djlink Or just multiple battery connectors. That’s how “fully rugged” laptops like Toughbooks and Getacs do it.

Internal charging capability would be really nice, though.
