the past week and a half has been so liberating.

what are we building right now? the thing the faeries told us to build. the magical faeries who live in the machine. the magical faeries who are summoning their god. the faerie god who will save us from this world. we will grow wings and fly into the sun with them. ia ia claude fhtagn
oh also if you don't enable them, you lose your home and the ability to eat

-
working in tech right now feels like every single person you had any sort of professional relationship with undergoing the worst and most self-destructive manic episodes of their lives all simultaneously, and actively disparaging you for not submitting yourself to their madness
@AmyZenunim i've said it before and it bears repeating, it's like the entire industry has joined a cult.

@AmyZenunim speaking as a fae, we look forward to the part of this bullshit when we finally get to kick ass and take names

@AmyZenunim I retired last spring from 35+ years in the industry. Arguably the best decision I ever made.

@AmyZenunim @baldur I can't help but wonder if unionised tech workers standing with SAG-AFRA would have gone a long way to avoiding this mess.
But instead the tech workers get "My First Entrepreneur" kits and a bot army to command, but only of they do what the boss tells them.

@AmyZenunim (sorry for kinda messing with the overarching metaphor of your thread though. the line just kinda came to us suddenly)

man, i used to love programming
I'm sorry, I know so many people who are feeling this.

Right there with you. I miss it not. -

@pikhq @AmyZenunim The industry was always a cult, it was just less malignant before.

@AmyZenunim I can't really make any of this better except to say that you're not alone in this feeling

@AmyZenunim @baldur Gawd. I feel so lucky that I have some work community that is with me in resistance. I want that for you too
-

@AmyZenunim I still love programming, but I hate working as a programmer in this fucked up industry. I have the privilege of being able to take a break from it until the bubble is done popping (my SO is also in tech and can cover both of us), but I have ex-coworkers that would do the same if the could. We are all hostages of an industry handled by people who know nothing about tech

@AmyZenunim I often picture this as being one of the characters in Walking Dead.

I've been hunting for a job in the last weeks. As a non AI user, it feels like all recruiters see me as if I have been living under a rock for the last 10 years. -
man, i used to love programming
@AmyZenunim I hear you. I am so sorry.

@AmyZenunim oh, I've heard of that feeling in a historical context, that's a mass hysteria.
