      @jonah Imagine being those handful of people who actually clicked yes.

      (Well, I suppose most did it as a joke, but something just makes me feel like a few actually legitimately believed it as they clicked yes.)

        @jonah Facebook has that policy where if you type "I declare that I do not give my permission for Meta to use my personal data for any purposes" then they can't use it

        @tom @jonah Hahahahahahahahaha.

        Sure.

        (Jokes and the fact they wouldn't really honor such a thing aside though, be careful. This smacks of one of those things people say that go around like a chain letter where everyone just does it and believes it works but it was never even an official statement in the first place. You couldn't trust them if they said they'd do this, but did they even actually say it?)

          @jonah I was close to voting ‘yes’ because… they absolutely do understand consent. They just refuse to acknowledge it as a concept.

            @carloshr @jonah I wonder these days. I'm starting to think they legitimately don't get it. Like they actually think this is normal and ok. I mean I could be wrong, it's just a gut feeling, but still... I legit think that at least some believe "remind me in five days" is a normal legitimate response. Like they're giving us a chance to change our minds because they're so sure we'll definitely do it or something (as if really, all along, we want to do it, but just not right this moment so need a reminder to come back to it.)

            I mean some, not all.

                      @moss @tom @jonah Looks like that confirms that whether or not any official statement was ever made regarding this it would have absolutely no legal standing (meaning they could disregard it at any time anyway.)

                      I think there are some opt out options in some privacy settings in the actual settings (not just making a post) but in the end, just assume Meta collects every byte of info they can about you and sell it and use it to manipulate you no matter what you do. Regardless of whether it is legal to do so or not and regardless of what you say. This is not exactly a secret thing... It's just what they are.

                      Remember too, they use cross-site tracking, IP addresses, phone apps, etc etc to cross track. If you're in, they have you. If a family member or friend is in, they have you.

                            @jonah every last employee at a big tech company has to go thru annual training on consent and sexual harassment to comply with US and local/state laws. They 100% understand consent
