I suspect the migration can still fail silently halfway through if it encounters someone on an instance which no longer exists (it certainly was an issue a few years back)

I just checked FediTips, have you tried manually exporting / importing follows & followers?
I don't know if it's automatic like Misskey.

it appears to be still an open issue (this is just one of them, there's also traffic on Reddit about similar problems) - unless you want to poke through CSV files and find out which of your followers are on "dead" instances it might just be better to keep tooting and hope folk eventually find you..

There's a fair chance that quite a few of your followers weren't active accounts anyway. A lot of people seem to try the Fediverse for a few weeks and then give up, because it requires you to actually think.

That's interesting. You may know that I have a 'backup' account on mendeddrum.org, and that was just importing the following and followers list, then waiting for people to accept.

Is the old account still there? I had the same problem and the migration stopped after just a few followers.
BUT! You can re-initiate the migration after a 30 days waiting period as described in this article: https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server/

You can't do it before, unfortunately. There'll be a little hint that says that 30 days haven't passed yet.
The waiting and not knowing is atrocious, I know.
