What a great interview!
@dwaynemonroe is a very thoughtful technologist, creative writer, arts appreciator, antifascist and anticapitalist.
So of course, he opposes Gen AI. Gen AI is a poison to everything we love, and a benefit to everything we hate.
Opposing Gen AI effectively requires fighting capitalism and working *outside* of the system, not within it.
I name the names of liberals (liberals are rightwing) in the apparent Gen AI resistance who are actually helping Sam Altman by sucking the oxygen out of the actual anti Gen AI movement.
You should check out the links to Monroe's writing. A great example of his work is when he wrote in The Nation about how harmful Gen AI will be in June 2022. That predates the launch of ChatGPT (the first publicly available "Gen AI") by about five months.

@crowgirl accurate predictions:
> Computation on the scale of LLMs requires massive amounts of electrical power; most of this comes from fossil sources, adding to climate change.
> every time you hear about self-driving trucks or cars, instead of marveling at the technical feat, you should detect the outlines of an anti-labor program.
> though inherently unreliable, such systems are being used, step by step, to obscure the culpability

> That and Ed Zitron saying “NO ONE IS LOSING THEIR JOBS!” in almost every episode of his podcast… I feel very strongly now that the resistance to Gen AI is being killed by a bunch of professional managerial class people to whom poverty is just an abstract concept.yes, #edzitron is #advertising #genAI:
> As Zitron’s profile has risen, so has the delight with which some journalists pass around stories about him—the maverick scourge of AI—peddling pitches about this or that AI service, helping to inflate the bubble with one hand while poking at it with the other.
