We have a weasel in the woodpile!!!

[isotope239@mastodon.online]

@alexhaist Maybe a pine marten? https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/animals/mammals/pine-marten/ Depends on where you're located.

@alexhaist So stinking cute.

[eetschrijver@mastodon.social]

@alexhaist Yay!

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@isotope239 northeast USA. Almost certainly at least weasel. So tiny. Less than half a foot.

[isotope239@mastodon.online]

@alexhaist He or she may be wee but I bet we're fierce!

[forestfjord@wandering.shop]

@alexhaist

[handmade_ghost@sunny.garden]

@alexhaist I always think of that little essay "Living Like Weasels" (Annie Dillard, maybe?). They are such ferocious and admirable creatures.

@alexhaist
A stoat or weasel kit caught peeking through the firewood! These tiny, agile predators from the mustelid family are masters of camouflage and pure curiosity in the wild. 🦦

[margaretsefton@writing.exchange]

@alexhaist The little thing blends right in! Adorbs

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@catselbow they have peered at me through at least five different holes in the pile so far

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@otterX I cannot tell you how cute this creature is in person.

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@jaypdub yesssss!

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@ml I could have fainted from cute when I first saw their little head pop out.

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@isotope239 I fear for the chipmunk who I also saw in the woodpile...

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@handmade_ghost I had not read that before. Freedom of necessity. Fascinating concept.

[alexhaist@wandering.shop]

@MargaretSefton I hope they stay.

[elaterite@mastoart.social]

@alexhaist ...and you have no insects, spiders, mice, or rats in that woodpile, nice!

[handmade_ghost@sunny.garden]

@alexhaist Yes, exactly. I'm never quite comfortable with Annie Dillard's "we," but I love her account of her encounter and the blanked tapes of the mind, etc.

[laszlo@digitalcourage.social]

@alexhaist I love them.

[idzie@kolektiva.social]

@alexhaist tiny zippy friend!!!
