“The point of science fiction is that it will one day become science fact.”

I just threw up in my fucking mouth. Whoever wrote that has never actually read any speculative fiction. At least not any they understood.

@FinalGirl@blackqueer.life loool yeah what an absurd statement

a lot of science fiction is closer to fantasy with technology that is indistinguishable from magic. and though hard scifi generally follows known science, it generally has at least some technology that is impossible by our current understanding of the universe

@FinalGirl@blackqueer.life The God Emperor Leto II would like a word with whoever said that (I can likely guess, sounds like a certain person I unfortunately share a birthday with)

Maybe I’m just absurdly stupid about this but I thought the point of science fiction was to explore and consider the human condition outside the bounds of our present limitations and without the context of our current baggage which constrains our ability to truly understand ourselves both a individuals and as communities.

But what do I know? (*giggle) I’m just a silly bimbo.

@FinalGirl You are exactly right about the point of SF. (But what do I know? I'm just a multiple hugo-award winning SF author with >30 novels in print. And anyone who says you're wrong is probably less qualified to comment than my cat.)
