a question please for people who are here and on bluesky:
-
@moonrabbit I'm on bluesky and like it a lot. As ever with social media, your experience depends to a large extent on who you follow.
@janjonesauthor
hello! how are you?and thank you. i wasn't even on it for long enough really to follow anyone; i think it's just that it felt a lot like twitter to me.
but i'm glad to know you like it. maybe i'll have another look ...
-
@moonrabbit Their Discover feed is (was? maybe they changed it) massively biased towards your profile text so keep that in mind.
And since you don't want to post about every day stuff I would suggest that you do a flashback Friday every Friday and post ceramics. And new stuff when you have that of course. You can use software to make the same post for multiple platforms so you only have to write it once.@drgroftehauge tyty
i really don't like the idea of cross-posting through, which i guess is part of the problem: i would have to do everything twice and i just can't. but v good to know re the profile text! -
a question please for people who are here and on bluesky:
sigh. i don't want to start up over there but equally i don't want to get evicted for not paying my rent, and i might find some new customers if i try another platform.
but i did try it once, briefly and a while back, and i didn't last long. so i'm wondering whether it's the sort of place that i could just post sculpture photos and not really engage beyond that? i don't like the idea of doing that, but i can't maintain a presence in two places, i'm *not* leaving here, and i just didn't feel ok with the atmosphere on bluesky and wanted to hide when i tried it before. (and i'm not doing a bridgey account because i know that upsets people)
if anyone has any insights/ideas, i'd be very grateful.
thank you!
(please boost if you don't mind)
@moonrabbit Apologies if you tried this already, but would it help to put an explanation in a pinned post?
That way at least, you hopefully would feel less obligation/pressure to acknowledge any interactions. If that was part of the problem (I had weird feelings about it when I did a "no interactions" account on twitter, though that was a very different kind and era)

I wish I could do more than wish you luck sorting it out, but my own art gets lost in the shuffle no matter where I place it, so... yeah.

@thebaywindowgirl that's all very good, well done! even on the rain, because probably you wishing for it had something to do with its happening?

@sinvega thank you so much, i have not tried that. i lasted erm maybe 2 days on bluesky before?
but yes that's definitely an idea. if i end up trying again, i'll try it, thank you

Two suggestions
1. hook up with Mastodon.art if you want to increase your visibility as an artist. @Curator may be able to advise
2. Pixelfed is based towards image posts and is part of the Fediverse #pixelfed , read about it here: https://fedi.tips/pixelfed-photo-sharing-on-the-fediverse/

️@moonrabbit Oh definitely. I only had to wish for a couple of months too.
How are things Over There, any progress with the Welsh house? And how is Kitten? (sorry if you’ve posted about all this and I’ve missed it). -
Aw, that's sweet.
I have all my stuff pinned and you're welcome to visit when you run out of important things to do.I hope you can get the rent paid and maybe even buy some food and stuff.

@moonrabbit I use it, although I spend much more time here. Like anything, you will get a lot more traction if you interact, but if you get on some relevant lists, you can get a lot of followers without much effort and people will see your posts.
I think my ratio of signal to noise is a lot better here, but I have made sales over there as well, and you can reach a much bigger audience.
It also helps to find some hashtags you can regularly take part in. I'm a writer, so for me #WIPSnips is good

things here are. we never heard back from the estate agents after they said they'd send a video (by this am at the latest). but i know they had a viewing (because these days, it's just a free for all at one massive viewing, sigh) today, so probably they've been inundated with better applications now. i'll mail them this evening, but i think i know the answer.
mr kitten is *whispers so as not to upset anything* doing better ... *touches all wood* 🪵
beyond that, it's all not great really.

@moonrabbit >but I would be surprised if there weren't something similar for art. Hashtags games give you access to a community and a prompt to post something that's not just straight advertising without having to give too much thought and planning to your posts. It helps break up your posts so people won't look at your bio, notice you only advertise, and decide not to follow. And you can just drop a post to the hashtag before or after you do your promo and then leave.

@thebaywindowgirl
thank you. and i'm sorry ... this world really is not right. -
@moonrabbit I've never had an issue with people on Bluesky regarding my bridged Mastodon account. I've seen the reverse though.
@Tim_Eagon
So you mean you had BS ppl upset that you are bridged? -

@rubyjones
many, many thanks for all of this. at this point, the whole thing is feeling super overwhelming and i'm having the "i just want to hide" reaction again before i've even got there. but this is all super helpful, and i've bookmarked it for when i can re-emerge ... -
@moonrabbit Different people have different experiences on BlueSky, but unless your art is particularly interesting/novel, you probably won't get a whole lot of engagement without interacting with others.
Feeds can be useful for getting your posts "found", and can help get more eyes on your work, but you'd have to put in the work to find appropriate Feeds and do whatever is required to get your posts to show up in them. Feeds are mostly maintained by individuals, so they can come and go in terms of popularity.
@BlueAppaloosa This is exactly the problem on Bsky: you have to find at least one influencer who takes you into such a feed-list that really brings clients.
@moonrabbit I know that nobody in the Fediverse likes to hear it but most artists that I know sell via Instagram most. But that's as much work for mantaining an account as anywhere.
Or bridging to Bsky ... but you have to write there also directly in comments etc. to become discovered for those feeds.
Good luck! -

thank you. i was on instagram for a couple of years before i joined mastodon and didn't sell very much even though i had a lot of followers. but they were mostly other artists who just wanted me to follow them. and it was SO MUCH work with very little actual community/care, and it got to the point by the end where i felt sick every time i signed in and kept avoiding it. so i'm definitely not going back there. excellent that it works for some people though! it just didn't for me. but tyvm again! -

@raye tyvm
i've just gone to it and the homepage is a bit overwhelming, but i'll see if i can get through it!
you ok?
@moonrabbit I never look at the tumblr homepage, just my dashboard. And I ad-block. I get just the weirdness I want.
I am okay. Visited a cool Buddhist stupa with my sibling this week. Temps are garbage again, but my garden is doing decently. I think I have gained the upper hand against the Japanese beetles. My birthday is in a fortnight and I have no particular emotional feeling about it, which is nice.

@Tim_Eagon
So you mean you had BS ppl upset that you are bridged?@Scofisticated @moonrabbit No, I've only seen Fediverse people upset about Bridged accounts.
