When I moved from doing these things as a hobby and started to share them to others, I wasn't seeking an audience. I just wanted to share them with likeminded people. No matketing strategies, just fun.And now that it is a business, my goal is still to do it because I love it and sharing that love to others and that resonates more than selling a product.
People don't want AI, they want to connect with the art, the story, the growth of a person.
@hiisikoloart @Lana Oh, I have been doing that as a hobby, just for others, just to connect, without making any money from it, and with my passion, and with all my free time.
And still having an image boosted by a big account that fits into one post will be much more successfull than trying to get that same big account share a post with a link to a website where they'd have to read a story with 6k words.
I've even started to cut my stories into easy-to-read 1k-parts and still it's too much. -

When instagram was still not sloppified, I followed an artist who made their doodles on their phone. Super unrefined but each piece came from the clear need to create.Another made stick figure sketches of comics and quickly gained following because of consistency and passion.
I've followed small indies since I was 20, and they followed me back because passion recognizes passion. I foreged friendships and community that wants to support me back.
Don't stop making art. It matters

(In MY OWN language, I have to say. I hate English and I'm bad at it. But, well - according to the EP my bad English does not matter, so I can still ask that 6k account why I never see them boost any small, bad-writing author and thereby supporting them).

It is the need to create and write the stories that fulfill their minds.Marketing is hard, hell I know that super well, but one should keep in mind that the stories matter because they come from you.
Also, you can pay real artists to make you art that promotes your writing. You can talk about your stories and hype them up.

I have picked up books because people had a short snippet of it available to me. People have picked up my books because I talked about them (text only) and made them interested.It is another skill a person can learn and we all start by being terrible at it.
But we artists can support each other, grow, and enjoy the process of creation collectively.
Don't let AI steal that from you.

I meant if you feel that you need images - you can pay artists to help you out.But if you have passion, it will shine through and catch and audience.
But it seems that you are really honed in on comparisons instead of focusing on your craft. And comparison is the thief of joy, as they say.
Your english is really good too by the way. I bet you could write using it if you wanted to.

It's not AI that steals anything from me. It's people's ignorance that destroys all my joy on creating things.

@cyris may I chime in here? I'm a musician and I love reading and to me, word-work as you call it matters a lot. Nowadays, at least half of the books I buy come from authors/indies here on the fedi and it's wonderful!
I know too well that we all have our moments or days/weeks/whatever of frustration, thinking our art/craft doesn't matter, but it does!

Of course post share number steals your joy when you focus on it instead of the joy of creating things.How about you try to focus on your craft and having fun instead? Share the things you are interested in in here, and speak out on the wonderful stories you got instead.
You can contibute to sharing things here and making the algorithm see more book posts.
Here you never know what goes "viral", but usually it is a passion project, or a thing of whimsy. -

Also AI in other social medias is drowning real creator's work, and steals from us. It has 100% contibuted to lack of visibility, work, and sales on all angles of art.Writers have harder time to be seen online because slop fills people's feeds. Artists have harder time selling commissions. Musicians make less money. All big corporations shove AI down people's throats and those who use It erode trust people had on books, art, and music.
It hurts you too.

"You don't understand, without AI, I couldn't have drawn this/written this/designed this." says a person, certain that surely this, this argument right here is the nail in the coffin of the anti-AI argument. Utility: "Without this thing, I would have been bad at this task."
Yes. Correct. You would have been bad at it. And that's ok. Not only because it's just... Ok to be bad at things in general. But also because being bad at a thing is the first necessary step to learning how to do a thing.
Every musician you love has spent thousands of hours first being bad at being a musician. Every artist that brings you to tears has spent thousands of hours being bad at art. Every single designer with a master's degree in design has spent thousands upon thousands of hours designing things that are utter crap.
We learn how to do a thing by first being bad at it. And then noticing what skills we need to acquire to be better at it. And then honing those skills on a million failed attempts. And THEN we are finally good at doing it.
And being bad at things isn't just about learning how to do it yourself. It also teaches you how to listen more effectively to music. How to see art with the eyes of an artist. How to study a design for design flaws before it's even built. It teaches you good taste. How to perceive the humanity in the things all around you - things built by humans, for other humans.
No, the biggest problem with AI isn't that it makes bad art - although it most assuredly does also do that. It's that it robs human beings of the legitimacy of creating bad art ourselves.
How can anyone ever be expected to learn to do a thing if we can't ever be bad at it first?
@Gaptangle @Lana Add to that, without being bad at something, we can't possibly know how bad an AI is at the same skill because we can't even verify if what it's doing is some mashup of a dozen different skills that look/sound/act all kinds of really bad
