my drawing of St Melangell, holding a hare and surrounded by rescued rabbits. She is the patron saint of hares and arguably a 7th century hunt sab; according to legend she saved a hunted hare under her cloak and protected them from a prince's hounds

Today is her feast day

@katelouisepowell I can't find the reference online right now, but it is said that St. Melangell built a church by herself on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea, one stone at a time.
My wife served on the building committee for our parish, and developed a strong affinity for St. Melangell.

Dr Who maybe 50 years ago? Russell T. Davis made it into something else.Sounds very Celtic / Irish. No Rabbits here till the Normans brought them in the 12th C.
Also Celts saw a "hare in the moon" (c.f. Japan Rabbit and Americas Rabbit/hare in the Moon). -

I'd not heard of St Melangell before so looked up Wikipedia (not reliable but most of the rest of the web now worse).
So there is a Celtic + Irish & moon connection.See also Goddess Brigid vs St. Brigid who share the same day. The Fire Festival of Imbolc, now 1st February.
