@Phangurl @startrek Well, we know from the TNG episode "The Loss" (had to look that up, always confuse it with "The Swarm") that when Deanna looses her empathy, other people stop feeling real to her & that it plays merry hell with her mind - maybe Suder experienced something like that...

@jwcph and the reason this kind of thing is so special for some people? Because they were physical things made to be used by the actors often enough that they are recognisable.No-one's going to give a damn about any stand-in prop replaced by forgettable CGI from any modern show...

I made it about halfway through The Martian and its protagonist’s insistence that everyone finds him funny despite no supporting evidence.He said something about some scientific term and then decided to rename it pirate ninjas (funny, see?). I thought, “jfc I’m gonna see fifty occurrences of the phrase “pirate ninjas” on the next page, aren’t I?I glanced at the next page, then shut the book forever more.
