@ChrisMayLA6 This is a long term problem that has been carefully not addressed for half a century. When I was at North Manchester High most of the lads would leave at 16 and get an apprenticeship in local firms; Ferranti,ICI,Connoly’s etc. But already some of these were starting to poach time-served staff and close the apprenticeship schemes. And this is a domino effect because who’s going to train trades who then leave? Except soon they were complaining they couldn’t get skilled staff.
