Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.

@DavidNorth @EUCommission practically correct - I'm not interested in a conversion therapy, and I agree it's a harmful concept. It's more about the principle. I really don't like it when a government decides what is good or bad for me.
@Kosimus @DavidNorth @EUCommission so by following that logic... We shouldn't have agencies that do checks on the food we eat.... The type of compounds we allow in food or not.....
God forbid that the government does anything.... -
@Kosimus @Njord @EUCommission why would an adult willingly put themselves through that though? It's literal torture
@thibaultmol @Njord @EUCommission no idea, I'm not interested in partaking. People do things that are incredibly hard to explain all the time.

Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.
We hear you.
And our reply is firm:

These interventions must end.
Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.Yet, conversion practices, relying on the false idea that LGBTIQ+ people are sick, still exist and are causing long-lasting psychological and physical damage.
Your rights are an inseparable part of a true Union of Equality.
We won’t let you down.
️
@EUCommission I just read something else about that; it seems we're not going to ban, but we'll ask nicely ?
-
@Njord @EUCommission
This is confusing. Arent those statements synonymous?
To convert one's gender/to reassign one's gender mean the same thing to me.@PhoenixWright @Njord @EUCommission transition therapy is to help someone voluntarily transition from one phase to another.
Conversion therapy is the non consensual change from one phase to a correct configuration. -
@Kosimus @DavidNorth @EUCommission so by following that logic... We shouldn't have agencies that do checks on the food we eat.... The type of compounds we allow in food or not.....
God forbid that the government does anything....@thibaultmol @DavidNorth @EUCommission I think we should have agencies certifying food items as safe or unsafe. At the same time I really don't think an item lacking such certification should be automatically illegal. I just won't buy an unsafe item. Consequently, I don't mind info actions from the government advertising the obvious scientific fact that such conversion "therapy" is bull. It should not automatically make them illegal though.

@EUCommission that’s how i want my government to communicate with us the people 🥰

I trust you to act accordingly.
-
@DavidNorth @thibaultmol @EUCommission IMO that's crossing the line. There are countless organizations, practices, and groups you could easily refer to as coercive, and they don't end up banned (and they won't)
Agree to disagree?

Hello @joyandsadness
Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.
We also stated this in the text above the poster, but we thank you for your feedback on our visual communication. We will bear it in mind for the future. Here we go again...

️You did not stated that.
As has been pointed out here:
https://mastodon.social/@lxsameer/116567751304259850
Seriously, a RIGOROUS social network account for the #EU would revise the poster BEFORE posting it, and ask some LGTBIQ+ organizations if they see anything wrong. They would spotted the problem immediately.
To reiterate you are implying there is other types of cure, and beign LGTBIQ+ is an illness.
What it's sick is that ban this therapies has not be considered until the citizens did a public collection of firms.
How long is going to take you to consider attacks to the LGTBIQ+ citizens a HATE CRIME, punishable with the highest jail periods?.
This two should be MANDATORY for any country that wants to stay or join the EU.
No more discrimination allowed for us in the EU country members. -

@EUCommission Hi, thank you so much for your commitment to LGBTQIA+ rights and managing a self-hosted Mastodon account whereas your replies will try to engage in a power struggle with a community manager. I wish we didn’t confuse collective action with degrading your work conditions, and I hope we can manage to make this space more welcoming and inclusive for everyone. Death to Frontex; I wish you an excellent evening.

@EUCommission diversity is what makes humanity strong. Monoculture is prone to diseases. Fascism wants monoculture.
@assimilateborg @EUCommission Hi, absolutely! The French philosopher Joëlle Zask wrote in 2011 “Participer. Essai sur les formes démocratiques de la participation”, which discusses individuation according to Thomas Jefferson and Alexis de Tocqueville. My eyes hurt at the moment, but it discusses our need for involvement in pluralistic associations.
-
@EUCommission @nikthechampiongr but is there a reason why you're using them...? Because mastodon doesn't care (max char length of a post) if it's a short or long link
@thibaultmol @nikthechampiongr I vaguely recall this being discussed in the past.
I might have made a guess that their own link shortener allows them to know for sure where the visitors originated, if the link propagates and potentially loses some params.
Which seems like a fairly benign shortener use.In any case, kudos for the reply, @EUCommission

@richlv I think the big concern is with link shorteners that the person posting (or the website being linked to) doesn't control. This link shortener seems like a benign one. @thibaultmol @nikthechampiongr @EUCommission

@EUCommission I am fully with you.
It’s a bloody shame that the country that was the first country in the WORLD to legalise same-sex marriages, is also the country that not yet banned conversion practices legally.
Yes, I’m talking about the Netherlands.
The ban didn’t go through because of the Christian parties. Now, we all know what Jesus Christ has said about homosexuals and I will repeat it for you. Here we go:
Exactly.

Hello @nikthechampiongr!
The link shortener used here is our own. It can only shorten URLs on the europa.eu domain.
If you prefer to access this site without a shortened link, here you go: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_1070@EUCommission @nikthechampiongr for the first few minutes it wasn’t, so it was a valid criticism then. Anyway kudos on fixing it

This is not something you really want to be talking about, because it only serves to remind people that you are terrified to enforce any kind of law against anyone who identifies as Muslim. -

Agree to disagree?
@Kosimus @DavidNorth @thibaultmol @EUCommission
the reason it must be banned is because someone can be misled into thinking that being queer is a disease at all and can be "cured", out of the fact that our society is still widely homophobic and queerphobic.
the same way someone might be misled into thinking homeopathy is a cure.
leaving it allowed swings the door for some reactionary creeps to take advantage of someone's trauma and self loathing, often from queerphobic upbringing
