Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.

@EUCommission @nikthechampiongr but is there a reason why you're using them...? Because mastodon doesn't care (max char length of a post) if it's a short or long link
@thibaultmol @nikthechampiongr I vaguely recall this being discussed in the past.
I might have made a guess that their own link shortener allows them to know for sure where the visitors originated, if the link propagates and potentially loses some params.
Which seems like a fairly benign shortener use.In any case, kudos for the reply, @EUCommission

@richlv I think the big concern is with link shorteners that the person posting (or the website being linked to) doesn't control. This link shortener seems like a benign one. @thibaultmol @nikthechampiongr @EUCommission

We hear you.
And our reply is firm:

These interventions must end.
Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.Yet, conversion practices, relying on the false idea that LGBTIQ+ people are sick, still exist and are causing long-lasting psychological and physical damage.
Your rights are an inseparable part of a true Union of Equality.
We won’t let you down.

@EUCommission I am fully with you.
It’s a bloody shame that the country that was the first country in the WORLD to legalise same-sex marriages, is also the country that not yet banned conversion practices legally.
Yes, I’m talking about the Netherlands.
The ban didn’t go through because of the Christian parties. Now, we all know what Jesus Christ has said about homosexuals and I will repeat it for you. Here we go:
Exactly.

@EUCommission over one million also ask to cease commercial partnership with Israël. We're waiting.

Hello @nikthechampiongr!
The link shortener used here is our own. It can only shorten URLs on the europa.eu domain.
If you prefer to access this site without a shortened link, here you go: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_1070@EUCommission @nikthechampiongr for the first few minutes it wasn’t, so it was a valid criticism then. Anyway kudos on fixing it

This is not something you really want to be talking about, because it only serves to remind people that you are terrified to enforce any kind of law against anyone who identifies as Muslim. -
@DavidNorth @thibaultmol @EUCommission IMO that's crossing the line. There are countless organizations, practices, and groups you could easily refer to as coercive, and they don't end up banned (and they won't)
Agree to disagree?
@Kosimus @DavidNorth @thibaultmol @EUCommission
the reason it must be banned is because someone can be misled into thinking that being queer is a disease at all and can be "cured", out of the fact that our society is still widely homophobic and queerphobic.
the same way someone might be misled into thinking homeopathy is a cure.
leaving it allowed swings the door for some reactionary creeps to take advantage of someone's trauma and self loathing, often from queerphobic upbringing
