Great news:
Earlier this month Ecosia and Qwant started partially using their new European search index "Staan" to get results.Bad news:
It's heavily LLM (AI) focused, so much so that the front page mentions it no less than 10 times. Nay.Now I don't know what to use. I think I prefer something like Startpage which is also hosted in Europe. sadly not using a European index, but it's not AI infested, or at least not as much.

@pelle Oh great, thanks for the suggestion!
They have a summarise button by default but that can be disabled, and dark mode can be enabled, and then one can create a URL that automatically uses those settings, like Startpage.
A bit strange to me why such settings are saved in cookies as opposed to local storage, but it's no big issue.

@marcusxms yea, at least the AI stuff is optional, unlike google, duckduckgo, etc that enable it by default
