Conversation at family dinner: how do you hold your foot when you cut your toenails?
-
@deadDuck I lift my foot up, set it in the bathroom sink, and cut my toenails. My gender is "I don't live in a goddamn forest".

@deadDuck I've seen the ankle over knee thing & I can't understand it - from a purely ergonomic point of view it's just about the worst way to do this... I guess men are just not very smart
(I'm a dude, for the record) -
@deadDuck Those who put your ankle over your opposite knee - how do you get to the invisible side of your toenail to trim it well?
@cassolotl @deadDuck By twisting foot or sometimes foot and knee

-
@deadDuck italian woman: foot on bidet

-
@deadDuck female, foot on toilet seat, clippings go in. So closer to the (maybe?) typical female position, but with a twist.
(If that grosses anyone out, I'm truly sorry. Imo it's just logical.)
@alisynthesis @deadDuck Male, same. Anything else (provided you can do this comfortably) is just batshit insane. Sorry, not sorry.
-
@deadDuck One foot on bathroom floor, other foot on bathroom sink. Cut the toenails on the sink
Gender = bi@SnyperWolf @deadDuck Same, just with toilet rim. Trans- and agender.

@deadDuck it's a skirt thing.
Anyway, what I do is to sit on the couch and bend forward to cut them.
-
@deadDuck Knee up? How uncomfortable!
-
@deadDuck female, stand on one leg, hold foot over basin to catch trimmings, cut

@edgeofeurope @deadDuck I almost always wear skirts or dresses but put my ankle over my knee.
-
@deadDuck as a woman I say heel-to-butt because that'shiw I used to do it, but these days I pay a podiatrist to do it for me, so strictly it's done with straight legs.
-
@deadDuck I sit on a toilet seat or edge of the bed and lean over.
-
@deadDuck sit on a chair and bend down, enby
-
@deadDuck male, I use a softer version of the «heel to butt» position: I sit on the toilet seat with the foot on the bidet in front and lean forward.
-
@deadDuck@zeroes.ca Male. Foot on bidet. Or open toilet, if no bidet. Standing up.
-
@deadDuck Toe in mouth and gnaw away like God intended.
-
@RobotDiver @Pinchy63 @deadDuck I did do that for a while. When they get long enough, you can bend them backwards after a bath while the nail is soft and use the separated fold on the end to tear across. Done right, the quick isn't in any danger of exposure.
It's a lazy way: the end result isn't a clean cut but is as jagged as the end of torn paper and will snag anything from socks to sheets. The work smoothing the nails with a metal file or an emory board afterwards makes clippers faster. (It's also difficult with permanently short nails like the pinky toe, so waiting for it to get longer to tear is annoying.)

@deadDuck Man. But my Hip flex is garbage. I have to sit on a bed or a couch at 45 degrees and one knee at a time flat on the bed, leg bent, with my ankle hanging over the side. I clip nails with my foot sideways. Putting my ankle on either knee hurts too much. (The balance leg I have extended off the bed, usually straight.)
...I can't really cross my legs comfortably. My midsection is too large and my thighs could be mistaken for tree trunks if I was buried head first up to my waist. As a result sitting on the ground sucks for me in any position. But I can stand for hours and walk for miles. (Was a cameraman for sportsball for almost six years until now.)

@deadDuck standing up, foot on the rim of the toilet seat
