Apparently some furry conventions offer STI testing and people are making judgemental memes about it.

Apparently some furry conventions offer STI testing and people are making judgemental memes about it. Whereas as anyone who has ever attended or worse had to arrange a scientific conference will tell you this is something every conference should be offering.

@afewbugs When I studied at uni, I had a holiday job with the conferencing team and heard that the condom machines which needed filling once a term in term time (Union had free condoms tbf) needed weekly filling during conferences...
(three of our biggest conferences were RSPB, Samaritans and the General Synod)

@afewbugs Actually, when you think about it from the standpoint of public health, any large gathering that lasts more than a day or so should probably have a whole host of pop-up testing and/or counselling tents/rooms/whatever.

@penwing I am not the greatest fan of academic conferences as an efficient or sustainable way of disseminating scientific knowledge, but it does have to be acknowledged many academics do look forward to them as a way of networking with the greatest minds in the field and then apparently fucking each others brains out, and a way to ensure everyone does so safely seems very sensible.
If they could also be encouraged to do so quietly so as not to disturb the person in the next rooms presenting in the 9 am slot that would be wonderful but you can't have everything.
