My #SilentSunday was a hike along the small creek called Fruens Møllested Bæk in northern Vejle, Jutland, Denmark. The word “bæk” is the same word as “beck” in British English, so the name means The Creek of the Lady’s Mill House.

This area is full of water streams of different sizes, and I came by the ruins of one of the old watermills.

We have finally had a decent snowfall here in January, so it almost feels like the old Danish winters we had when I grew up.

@randahl Lovely photographs Randahl. With all of the awful news in the world today connecting with nature affords an opportunity for regaining psychological balance.

And thank you for your accurate and impartial reporting on world events.

@rasmus91 Clearly, Himmerland is way colder than Vejle. You guys still get the winters we used to see. Of course it also helps that I am on the east coast with all of Jutland slowing the wind from the west.

@randahl i grew up in Thy

I remember a single time the temp reached -20 during a blizzard. I went for a walk with our Labrador. We had the time of our lives, until i sank into a drift up to my armpits. I called her over (they have webbed paws and do not really sink in the snow) and grabbed her collar, and told her "moosh" and she pulled as hard as she could, getting me up just enough that I could worm my way back to where it was just knee deep....

@randahl that sort of weather is uncommon in the extreme anywhere in Denmark though.

@randahl it's not a rule set in stone, but for your information the culture for #SilentSunday is that you put a picture without any words. Hence the "silent". You can put a bunch if text in the alt text though. Have a nice evening.

@randahl Good to know the beck thing. Lots of Scandi words in the former Danelaw.

@rasmus91 what an awesome dog story. Dogs are the best.

As a kid, I spent all my summers in Vorupør, fishing at the pier, bathing in the sea, and flying kites between the sand dunes.

                      Good times.

@reynir when I was in my twenties, I had the habit of constantly talking about “the rules”, until someone a lot older than me one day said “live and let live”.

Not knowing what that meant, I looked it up, and suddenly I realized that more often than not, all those “rules” are not so important for everyone to have a wonderful life.
