@mcnado Also, strict legal and vigilante enforcement of binary gender norms put everyone in danger. Even if you’re not trans.
@garland besides, it's morally reprehensible.

I’m not trans. As far as I know, my kids aren’t at the moment. Nobody in my family is. None of my good friends are. I don’t prescribe medication for gender affirming care. I don’t specifically treat folks for gender dysphoria. So why do I give a fuck?
You don’t punch down. There’s no transgender machine producing trans judiciary and trans politicians and trans PACs to come for my cisgender. There are trans folks being discriminated against, outed, beaten, jailed, and killed. I hate bullies.
@mcnado I'm not trans either, and definitely not a physician or other healthcare provider. But because I have trans friends, I still felt a need to write this, ICYMI: https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/attacks-on-transgender-americans-are-attacks-on-health-care

@mcnado there is a trans nurse who does intake for the Nanaimo hospital ID clinic daily, and frankly no one gives a shit - she does her job well, my son adores her

@mcnado There's been a slo-mo trans migration wave since the first bathroom ban laws 10+ yrs ago. Detroit's a relatively cheap city in a safe state, so I've seen this firsthand. Since 2024 many trans people with the means to do so are focused on leaving the country. I'm not in personal danger at the moment, nor is my HRT supply, but I too have an exit plan.

Considering that at least 10% of Gen Alpha identify as trans or non-binary and the actual number of trans and non-binary people is likely even higher because there is heavy suppression, you probably know quite a few trans and non-binary people but they have not disclosed that to you or in general...
A statement such as "nobody in my family is" is quite jarring. Statistically there must be trans and/or non-binary people in your family. Sadly though, they apparently don't feel safe enough to come out, or they've been sufficiently indoctrinated that they don't even realize that they're trans... As I had during the first 40+ years of my life before realizing that I'm non-binary... -

@mcnado You might know some trans people actually, they just might be in the closet because of what you said in the second part of your post.

@mcnado There's a lot of good reasons to stand up to bigotry in general and transphobia in particular.
But "I hate bullies" is a very good one and should be mentioned more often.

And I did not speak out
Because I was not a CommunistThen they came for the trade unionists

Nobody at my last job knew I was trans, or even the job before that. But aggressive Epstein club politicians are trying to change that...

@mcnado My church has several trans members and many other members of the queer community. If folks stopped ostracizing them and took time to get to know them , they would realize that they are wonderful people!

@mcnado Bullying - the deliberate torment or targeting of the weak/those with less ability to defend themselves on equal terms - is an ethical and a moral wrong. It only matters if you have a conscience. It is your inner witness to your own commitment to a just and fair world.
