The siver ligning here is the codes are proof of authorisation to request a launch. Not an autmatic trigger. Even if the psycophants surrounding tump will cheer him on. Its likely the teams manning the silos will refuse to launch. -

Checks and balances are gone. They just did a whole thing where generals were required to swear an oath of fealty to Trump above all.
Trump has ordered troops illegally into cities. They didn't start violence, but they also didn't refuse the illegal orders to go in in what he hoped would result in violence. Then ICE came...
I do not trust people to refuse anymore.

nah, militaries end up firing on civilians in prety much every conflict. The only difference is how proud/ashamed of it they are.Being the first person to launch a nuke though, that's a whole world ending level of guilt even without the target being your own country or that of an ally. I have hope that most of the people who have that job, got it back when people who looked for responsability over fanatacism were in charge.

@duckwhistle @sonjavan62 @vowe I can't really agree that it's that easy to just shrug off murdering civilians, but I'll put that aside. I'd love it if you were right, but what I'm seeing right now is Project 2025 working hard to fill all the positions with loyalists who will obey no matter what. Those at the top are getting even the military to swear fealty to Trump and the regime, *not* to the Constitution.
I don't think it's a good idea to assume they won't do what they're told anymore.
