@stux Speak up, sonny. I can't hear you.
@MasterMischief @stux I was at the in between stage
-
the human experience is preserved in an Ipod instead of listening to live music ?
my brother in Christ, what are you smoking ?
@failedLyndonLaRouchite
I feel like you're being willfully obtuse here.
The comparison isn't between live music and an iPod its between a streaming app that's probably serving AI generated music and actually buying music from artists like we did during the iPod era.
Its a criticism of the corporate digital hellscape we're in. The reason we're on Mastodon and not on Twitter or Bluesky. How is this not an obvious theme to you? -
@stux Wait, you had pockets?
@djtoebeans Two words: Cargo pants.
-
We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux
I'M GOOOOING UUUNDEEEER…~

@stux You've reminded me of my favorite old phone, the LG Chocolate. It died when my toddler put it in the cat's water dish.

We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux I think our souls started to loose freedom from those times on.
-
We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux At this point I will take it compared to the spyware fiesta of useless apps made by ketamin addicted schizos that can't even accomplish what some random piece of plastic shit from 20 years ago did without fail for years.
At this point might downgrade to old bullshit like pictured, just to get out of cattlenomics focus, ads based cuckeri, and endless jumping of hops just to keep shit tolerable. -
We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux the convergent device was a mistake.

@stux I still have my PSP1004EU (first generation playstation portable) in good condition, no scratches. It had Dark Alex alternative firmware (play iso games), but i updated it to latest original firmware. What will people pay for it today if i say i also have movie and game UMD discs for PSP

@imaginaryuncle @MasterMischief @stux First discmans didn't have a memory buffer of say 30 seconds music). So the audio skipped often when it moves to fast. The discmans with audio buffer are awesome, nomore audio skipping.
But hey, as Audiophile i say: who want 16bit 44.1KHz pcm stereo if their is Hi-Res audio
(like 24bit 384 KHz 5.1 multichannel) -
@broximar I was looking for a iPod Classic yesterday but the prices
Holy smeckles

We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux Some pockets are pretty heavy.

@stux Still possible with deliberate choices

It's a fun meme, but I'm not sure I buy into the implication. I'm assuming the comparison is the smartphone, with all the problems they carry.
I like having one unit that can do everything, powered by a long lasting rechargeable battery. It's amazing carrying a fully(mostly) capable computer that fits in your pocket.
Most of the detriments are caused by corporate media. That can be avoided. Avoiding it makes a smaller world, but it's still pretty big.

We didn’t know how good we had it..
@stux I still use an mp3-player running #Rockbox. #Audiophile proof and there's still affordable devices being sold that can run it!
-
Yea, I'm on board with that. It annoys me I can't do exactly what I want with the phone. The root user is the one that owns the computer. I don't have root, so who owns it?
Just yesterday, I made another look into installing fonts. Can't do it. Samsung will let you choose from their selection. Proprietary apps may or may not let you do it on non Samsung, or you can use root, which I don't have. It's all so pointlessly hostile.

@MasterMischief @stux I'm on your team. That thing ate double-A batteries like chips. Good times.
