They are the best by far when it comes to being leak-tight and actually keeping your drink warm.
Mine keeps my tea at a good, drinkable temperature for hours.

Just make sure not to put the body into a dishwasher if you’re getting a coated one. It’ll start peeling of. The cap can go in the dishwasher no problem.

I thought it was something that came in pairs since I believe contigo means “with you”. So it fits but also fits for longevity. Not familiar with the brand otherwise. Sounds nice.

I really like them because their lids open up so they can get clean in the dishwasher and the opening in the bottom part is also big enough for dishwasher use. Narrow openings are such a pain.

Can confirm the coating is peeling on the 4 year old coated one from dishwasher washing however my all stainless cup bought at the same time looks great.

I have a narrow-mouth thermos and cleaning it out with a bottle brush is tedious and not super effective, I’m pretty sure the residue inside the bottle will never fully go away, but at least it gets washed out with soap and refilled with boiling water on a regular basis.

I noticed in the comments everyone really likes them, but this is not my experience.

True, no leakage. Mine, I got it at least 6 years bacl, never put in a dishwasher and it’s as good as new. But whenever I used it for a hot beverage, everything turns bad in it so much faster than anywhere else. Initially I thought I was not cleaning it well enough. I cut a sponge to reach everywhere and I was doing it daily, with the thingy lifted like in the last picture. I concluded it’s not that. It’s like the perfect conditions are created for new life to appear in it.

I still use it all the time, but only for water. Which also turns bad, but at least it can hold for a day or something, depending if it is room temp or cold.

Contigo is in such a funny spot. It’s overrepresented in non-BIFL spaces but also underrepresented in BIFL spaces. Like it’s not my preference, but you can’t argue with that they genuinely seem to last good. Like a hydroflask or klean kanteen travel mug is probably more durable, especially if you put a bottle boot on them, but if you want a travel mug you can open and close one handed… Contigo is kinda it

If I leave left over coffee (especially with milk) in there over night or the weekend it may say hello the next time I open it. For cleaning the cap the dishwasher seems to be the only option, cleaning by hand is very difficult.

Did you put it in the dishwasher? Because that can happen to things like this when they are subjected to things like the heated drying cycle. That goes for any brand, not just this one.

Honestly the heated drying cycle is just about the worst thing for most dishes that aren’t ceramic.

Just a guess as to what’s going on, but the optimum temperature for drinking hot beverages overlaps pretty exactly with the optimum temperature for microbial growth, so if these are better at retaining heat than the comparisons they would also spoil faster

I find it odd how often bottles and mugs come up in the context of BIFL. How often are people having them break?

With the exception of disposables or the cheap freebies that you sometimes get at events, I’ve never had a bottle or a mug break.

My travel mug is a Stanley that’s ~20 years old, and it has one hand opening. It still pretty much looks the same as the day I bought it.

I think it’s because when people are looking for a BIFL product they’re looking to replace a pattern of behavior (disposables) or something they broke. Water bottles are one of the most disposed of items (it’s truly shocking that selling water which should be free is a ~300 billion dollar industry), and experience a lot of drops and abuse in the form of getting tossed in the dishwasher. So I think what we mostly see when people present, or ask for their water bottles is basically real world experience with “Hey! This is my thing, this is the longest I’ve had one of these thing. It’s doing pretty good I think!” or “Hey, I broke my thing. Do y’all have suggestions for thing that has lasted a long time”

I’d say 20 year old stanley mug is a GREAT endorsement for stanley mug.

Did you put it in the dishwasher? Because that can happen to things like this when they are subjected to things like the heated drying cycle. That goes for any brand, not just this one.

Honestly the heated drying cycle is just about the worst thing for most dishes that aren’t ceramic.
