You offer three explanations for Green MPs and councillors opposing the motion: ignorance, racism, or pressure. There is a fourth, and it was on the table months before conference.
Plenty of us fed in similar concerns early on. I, for example, suggested swapping contested definitions for documented state crimes. Committing equally to fighting anti-Jewish and anti-Palestinian racism. Turning transparency calls into actual divestment from occupation-linked companies. Grounding solutions in self-determination, not imposition. When I fed back, all of these were deficient in the draft, and there seemed to be little change in the final version.
The proposed amendments to fix these issues were voted down. So, despite my public position on all this, had I been at conference I would have voted against it too.
Motions are legislative instruments, not campaigning slogans. This motion, as drafted, was a straitjacket: it left little room to hold the government of Israel to account while recognising the deep attachment many people feel, including Jewish constituents who wrote to me worried about what it signalled.
Opposing the motion's drafting is not opposing Palestinians. It's protecting the policy from being dismissed on a technicality, which is precisely what opponents of accountability want.
Politicians need space to do that work.
The motion has generated hundreds of messages to my inbox, all read. However, from constituents in my actual ward of Wotton, North Nibley and Stinchcombe in rural Gloucestershire I've received none. National shouting matches are loud; the people I answer to have stayed quiet.
If you want to shape Green Party policy, join us. This is where change happens. -

why do these constituents deny zionism is racism? what are they worried about? that they can no longer in polite society back an evil bloodthirsty racist ideology by hiding it behind the word "zionism?"
should they be reported to PREVENT as potential extremists, just like Muslim teenagers were for many years?
no? unthinkable? what's the difference?
double standards. that's the difference.

also shame on you too for spinning a complicated web of distractions and excuses just to avoid saying it
ZIONISM IS RACISM.
if the leadership of the Green party don't fix this - I can tell you many of the new votes you got over the last 2 years will be gone

@rzeta0 This was a clincher for me:
"Did you know Zionism was recognised as a form of racism by the United Nations 51 years ago?
But the UN overturned its resolution 16 years later, in 1991, under intense US pressure and after Israel refused to engage in peace talks unless it was revoked"

I've had one reply from a Green Councillor saying she was misrepresented - but she goes on to say she doesn't agree zionism is racism. ?!?
And a Green MP got back to me, doubling down, saying she disagrees zionism is racism and that saying so might upset some Jewish people.
Fuck these Greens.

Where exactly did I deny that?@eco-g By pi,ing on against the motion ceckaring that zionism is racism.
You could easily have stated that #ZionismIsRacism. You chose not to. Do you want to remedy that omission?

I set out where I've got to on #ZionismIsRacism back here, if you search that hashtag this post will pop up which describes where I'm at. You may have a different view and that's OK with me.

Many of us have seen a new side of some Green Party leaders councillors and MPs.
Some of us will be voting accordingly. Others may choose to campaign against them. Some may even stand against them.
I have already spoken this week to someone who stood as a green councillor in a big city but won't be any more because of what they've seen.
If there is anything positive that has come out of this it is how some Greens have revealed who they really are.
