@JeffGrigg @Daojoan pathetic penis pill pushing profiteers. Not just the placebos, but mostly.
As a moderator I always said,
"If you can explain how that helps a person do 'refactoring - improving the structure of code without changing its function' then I'll allow it, ruling it 'on-topic' for this group. Otherwise, you're 'off-topic.' And banned."And well, …
It was *always* the banned thing.

@Daojoan Yep, I've noticed that lately I've been regressing my tech a bit, and it feels great. Also, old models with new tooling makes for a better experience, as long as that tooling isn't made by the corps that got us in the current mess.

No, but I might still force refresh the feeds in my comics category on my RSS reader to ensure I've seen all the day's "funny papers."

@Daojoan I used to be surprised by the internet looking immune to the hype cycle.
In recent years, I realized we have just been on the 1st slope and we're approaching the "Peak of inflated expectations".
Once it's a repository of mostly fake generated stuff, we'll quickly reach the "Trough of disillusionment".
Imho, we're not far off. -
@HeckinChonker @Daojoan it's an agreeable evaluation.
Hopefully, the hit at the bottom of the slope will kill the idiotic self-perpetuating narratives that drag our species down into unnecessary-problems-hell -

But it was yours.@Daojoan no tracking on RSS? You wish!
Aside from obvious tracking pixels there are somewhat smart ways: When hitting the subscribe URL do a 301 "Moved Permanently" redirect to a feed URL containing a custom ID, a "good" feed reader will then store that URL and then all links and media references can contain the ID to track. This won't track when exactly you read the feed content, but will track when embedded d images are loaded (smart people block that) or click on a link (to full article?)

But it was yours.Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I wonder — when will we see a new kind of Internet?
One where the citizens control the servers, free from GAFAM and global powers, built to ensure open sharing for society and our democracies — even if it's imperfect.

@lunareclipse@snug.moe @mitsunee@ieji.de @Daojoan@mastodon.social that matches what i remember, and would indeed be about 15 years ago

@peteramthor @Daojoan I actually liked BBSs. A lot. And Usenet.
@martinlentink @peteramthor @Daojoan
Usenet was my first love.
I started with a First Class client. Oh, suddenly got reminded of the period PowWow existed. -
