    I am trying to control an Internet-of-Shit device that can only speak 2.4GHz wifi. I find that I am unable to operate a 2.4GHz network that anything can connect to on any channel because there is too much interference. 82% interference, 10% TX retries. Let's take a look at where that's coming from...

    Oh. It's because literally every car in the garage is doing wifi bukkake, several floors below me, through many feet of concrete.

      @jwz That's so frustrating. I wish this wasn't something car manufacturers did. I wish they would do something like automatically seek to the lowest radio power they can keep a stable connection to a smartphone with, or just not have Wi-Fi at all & bring back six disc changers & AM FM radios.

          @jwz Wow, that is some bullshit. Surely there can't be more than one or two people who are actually actively using their car's WiFi. Why is it on at all? Why do the cars even have WiFi? Is it on while the car is parked and empty?

          The modern car seems like a horrible pile of bullshit. Built in features locked behind paywalls, surveillance as a source of revenue for car companies, etc.

          Cars would look so different if there were a proper right to repair.

            @jackemled
            Powering down to the minimum necessary to be stable would generally be a good idea but in that case it might not help because down in the garage, they‘ll push the WIFI to full power because the phone they seek just isn’t in range.

            Maybe just shut it down if the car isn’t in use?

            I do really like the idea of the disk changers though.
            Like a tiny DJ that doesn’t wave or talk over the songs annoyingly 🙂

              @Landa @jwz Yeah, the radio should be turned all the way off if the engine is not on, except for periodically reporting its location to the manufacturer's "find my car" service of the owner has that subscription.

                  I'm sure I have mentioned this before but... if I ever find myself again trying to flash a microcontroller, I need someone to remind me of the terrible mistake that I am making, through the mechanism of punching me in the fucking face.
