    @fribbledom so, I'm absolutely trolling by bringing this up, but: I distinctly recall the cable company spokespeople saying over and over again throughout the years, "trust us: you ·will not like· a la carte: just keep paying us monthly for your bundle" 😜

        @fribbledom also, "computers" are now basically "mobile phones", which are simply "television" & "cable box" melded together in a pocket-sized single device…😢

          @fribbledom and you have to pay for the actual delivery service separately.

            @fribbledom
            Also about 10,000x more electricity than Satellite and over 1000x more than real Cable TV.
            And spies on you!

              @fribbledom can we ever hope for the days of free satellite access to return? Maybe 25 years ago I could buy a receiver and get TV from all over Europe, free and uncensored. Then Sky fucked it all.

                  @fribbledom - and includes commercials. So like terrestrial broadcasting (off an antenna or cable service), but you have to pay to access it in the first place.

                    Back in the day I couldn't afford cable TV, nowadays I can't afford streaming services. I've learned to be happy without relying on Big Media as a result, problem is that apparently everyone else is still addicted to it and that's limited my socialization severely

                      @fribbledom and, if you're lucky, you'll be for "bundles" to the same apps you're already paying for, but you'll get extra. Not sure what, but they swear.

                          @fribbledom I’m paying for Apple TV but it’s not really useable, so I’m watching the shows that I’m paying for on, uhm, a distributed backup service

                          @thomasfuchs @fribbledom Lol Apple TV was an experience. I only paid while Murderbot was going, but it took like, half an hour of clicking and trying on 3 different browsers every time a new episode came out until one actually started playing it. And every week it was a different configuration that worked. Cancelled immediately when the show ended - and next season I'll wait until it's all out and watch it all in one go. Hopefully I won't have to switch browsers mid-watch >___<
