    @kirakira@furry.engineer

    I would say that makes me nostalgic for highschool, but some lectures in my university actually also use them still…

    @jcm @kirakira

    I graduated highschool in 2007, college a few years later. These things were ubiquitous throughout that experience.

    ... are they no longer in use? Is it all computers now?

    Wild.

      @kirakira I feel like I'm about to belt out Pure Jesus Anthems with 300 other under-11s.

      Still bummed that I never got to be the helper moving their finger down the lines.

        @kirakira I was in the really special math class. We had the LCD display that goes on top of that thing that shows a ti graphing calculator screen on the projection.

          @dicenbuttons@mastodon.social @kirakira@furry.engineer

          At my university (I study computer engineering, other students might have a different experience) it is mostly either computers (PowerPoint/LaTeX Beamer slides; usually for most computer science stuff) or blackboard only (math stuff).

          The course using these things still was about models for information processing in the brain and mostly used backboard with a few dias shown containing graphs, complex sketches, pictures, etc. presented using the overhead projector.

          I personally enjoy courses mostly done with blackboard, because it typically limits the professor's talking speed to their writing speed and also allows me to write almost everything down.
          I've had a course using 180+ slides for each 90-minute lecture. Not even those "I made an animation by making thing appear slide-by-slide", no, it was 180 slides of mostly new content. No chance to write anything down or even fully grasp one slide before the next one is shown… 😞

            @TheMNWolf yes! They stated pulling that out in my 8th grade algebra class and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Always wondered how well it would display the games all the students had on their calculators

                  It's all computers... My kid is in elementary school and they've got a digital projector or a giant LCD touch screen on the wall in every room.

                  I think I've seen the overhead projectors mostly relegated to the corner of the room with a stack of unused binders on top.

                  (I graduated HS in 2006 and remember taking so many notes in HS and college from lectures given by someone hunched over one of these.)

                      @kirakira i used those. Once underlined something in red-tip on the displayed slide for effect, earning me stunned respect. Someone said "I didn't know that was possible."
