@glyph if i give money to them am i going to be hounded by election spam until the end of time
@aeva There's a box on the page that addresses this specific issue, but to sum up:
1. ActBlue has been great about this in the past if you choose not to share
2. ActBlue has a bug this year where it seems maybe you can't choose not to share
3. You DO NOT need to give your phone number. DO NOT provide it!
4. Make a burner email, burn it after a week. -

4. Make a burner email, burn it after a week.@aeva These are local campaigns who will sometimes send you a very nice handwritten "thank you" post card after the fact because (there are laws about this) you do need to provide your mailing address to the campaign. But I give ever year and physical paper spam has never been a particular problem for me. They can get your physical address from the voter rolls anyway which is where campaigns generally look anyhow.

Do you get mad that the fascists are running circles around the Democrats, taking control of local and state-level offices all over the place, mobilizing across different institutions and building durable entrenched local power? Do you feel sad that you don't know where to direct resources when that problem is so pervasive? WELP HERE YOU GO, GET ON IT
(Also BIG thank you to the SuperSwingDistricts Ad-Hoc Team, the effort to get the website up and running again this year was distributed across various volunteers without whom I would not have been able to get it promptly deployed. This is absolutely a fediverse joint.)

If you boost one thing I have done this year then this is the thing to boost. Boost it here, put it on your Instagram, post it on Facebook, hell, tweet it on X and glorp it on Slub for all I care, get it out to whatever platform you've got

@cthos @glyph I had this horrible thought that I guess I could abandon this improbable phone number I've had since I was 19, but I'm somewhat attached to the idea of old friends being able to get back in touch with me if they want to some day. I'd also feel bad just handing off the problem to whoever it would get reallocated to.
-
@cthos @aeva yeah the difficulty here is that ActBlue wants to be helpful and so they share with the campaigns. And every campaign is a completely different org with a completely different data-sharing policy. But of course there are several different democratic data-hoover consulting companies that helpfully take that data from many campaigns

@glyph Incidentally, my ballot in Texas had over 50 uncontested races, *all* going to Democrats. Mostly judge positions.

@glyph I also hand-validated each one just to make sure they all seemed like decent people. It's interesting to see the different quality of website between a candidate in a place like Iowa versus the one for Pennsylvania.
