New ToS gives permission for it to track citizenship status, religious beliefs, mental health diagnosis, sexual orientation and if you're trans.
It's a surveillance tool. Get rid of it.
@therivercrow holy shit.

@therivercrow It's not that you are wrong, but I think all these data brokers know everything there is to know about all of us, and it would be trivial for them to create lists of undesirables when they decide to, and no deleting a single all will change that.
hopefully thats just doomerism and not quite true, but idk

@therivercrow Quick, get the barn door!
They already have all that shit, do you really expect that (lack of) words on an electronic document have stopped them?
No reason to not delete now though, of course. Better late than never, I guess. Just make sure there aren't any other apps ... or operating systems ... or hardware ... that are surveilling you, if it's a concern.

@therivercrow to be fair in a way, almost all the corporate social media tracks this at least indirectly (still hilarious when they started advertising trans color thigh high socks to me
)…so, really just as bad as the others. I suspect they were probably tracking this before within their algorithms too though, weren’t they? -

@therivercrow
This is precisely the reason I closed my account after the hostile takeover of the platform by the US government. This is beyond overreach. -

@therivercrow It's been there since 2024. That doesn't make the app any less shit or concerning given the current state of the US, but it's not new.

@therivercrow absolutely not defending TikTok (stopped using it the day it was banned the first time), but do you have a more credible source than a screenshot from someone named Gee Deez Nutz? 🤨

@therivercrow@bardicperspiration.club ehhh
they were collecting this stuff before (even if just implicitly through the content people post) - cynically, this is just people realising because they all got notified about new ToS with the takeover of the US bit. I'm almost willing to bet the old ones said that same. -
@therivercrow I mean, it does specifically say it collects that information *if the user provides it*.. i.e. in a video they’ve made. I always assumed they were collecting that tbh. It recommends videos based on the ones you’ve already watched so it has to know something about the content of that video. IMO this isn’t really new it’s just more explicit.
@punkfairie @therivercrow Might well be that a lawyer would advise any Fediverse instance provider to include exactly the same language in their terms of service. If we happen to disclose those information on here, it may happen that it is processed in some way or the other, e.g., send to other instances, shown publicly, …
Does not mean that TikTok won't do something more nefarious with what they have now that they have this tech-oligarch-controlled US branch, but outrage about terms of service is always a bit old.

This does not say that Tiktok "tracks" this information, only that they will have and store this information if you give it to them via a survey or by putting it into a comment.
Like, if you write "I am trans and an immigrant" into a comment on *any* social media platform, that social media platform is going to store and process that string into their database. Obviously.
These ToS are only pointing this out explicitly.

@therivercrow Like - this is utterly baseless fearmongering based on the fact that most people don't even try to parse anything mildly legalese.

@therivercrow Now, if you do not trust TikTok to handle your gender identity or immigration status with the sensitivity it requires, you probably should not disclose it to them, especially not in one of their customer surveys (which you can just not participate in).

@caitp @therivercrow Take a look at who owns the US version of tiktok - I doubt it would be trivial of them to create lists of 'undesireables' - it could be done with AI in seconds, and maybe combined with data from other sources to build up a detailed record of any user they chose to target

came here to say the same thing - please at least edit the op to reflect that and avoid further spread of misinfo -
