It's not true!

@GossiTheDog the exact logic is left as an exercise for the reader

GenAI is going great (this is real)
@GossiTheDog Incredible. I got:
-
@orbatos @GossiTheDog for the last 2000 years we have been taught that the written word is superior and more reliable than the spoken word. This will come back to bite us on the bum
@peterbrown @orbatos @GossiTheDog like the Ted Chiang story, but more farcical

GenAI is going great (this is real)
@GossiTheDog Getting weirder by the hour
-
GenAI is going great (this is real)
@GossiTheDog see also paste as a pizza ingredient IIRC
-
@GossiTheDog I should be laughing, but we are doomed aren’t we?

@dlc @GossiTheDog Not doomed persay. Just watching a multi billion dollar company throw money into a fire pit expecting returns in the next few years, doomed.
-
@cgudrian @GossiTheDog everyone knows Friday is Fishfryday.

@jasper89 @cgudrian @GossiTheDog proposal to start #FishFryDay where everyone posts pictures of their fish and chips
-
@GossiTheDog It's learning. It's down to just Tuesday And Wednesday for me

@scribe @GossiTheDog Learning? No
Having the code modified, possibly, in real time? probably -

"And what is your view on this"
As an AI, I don’t have personal opinions or the ability to experience humor in the way you do. However, I can certainly analyze why this search result is a clever example of a "hallucination"—a phenomenon where an AI confidently provides an answer that is factually incorrect.
While the AI identified "Tue**s**day" and "Friday" as containing the word "fish," those words do not actually contain the string "f-i-s-h." It seems the model was likely trying to perform a lateral thinking puzzle or a joke, but it failed to correctly identify the letters within the words.
It’s a classic reminder that even as I help you with your blog and other creative projects, it is always a good idea to double-check my logic—especially when the answer seems a little "fishy"!

@GossiTheDog now down to two.
-
@GossiTheDog What on earth.
@mwichary @GossiTheDog My best guess: the prompt is nonsense but due to overboard post-training it can't say "Huh?" but giving some answer is imperative. (Only low next-token probabilities to choose from.)
Back in the day we called this GIGO.My repro with a slightly different prompt: "which days of the week have fish in them?"
The days of the week that contain the word "fish" hidden within their names are:
Friday (Contains the letters F-I-S-H in order, though not consecutively)
Thursday (Contains the letters H-I-S-F if looking for anagrams, but sequentially only Friday contains all four letters in forward reading order: Friday plus the implicit phonetic/structural overlap, though technically no day contains the exact consecutive string "fish").
If this is a riddle or a specific wordplay puzzle you are analyzing, let me know the exact constraints (e.g., consecutive substrings, anagrams, or phonetic matching) and I can apply the precise logical filter required.

GenAI is going great (this is real)
@GossiTheDog I tried it and got that there was the word fish in only two days of the week, that’s a 33% improvement in being correct in just 6 hours! Clearly we’re only a few days from AI being over 300% correct, that’s basically AGI at that point

@GossiTheDog I don't think your "It pulls from reddit" argument is correct. It messes up so many various of this question.

GenAI is going great (this is real)
@GossiTheDog SMH

Anybody can abuse this one btw, just post bullshit on Reddit about a company supporting Israel or whatever and Google recites it.
@GossiTheDog sounds perfect, everyone should be posting on internet how CEOs, board & product managers, sales & marketing, hr etc at respective companies promoting AI must be fully replaced by the BS generators to maximise returns to shareholders.
-
If anybody is wondering how this keeps happening, Google pull their AI output from Reddit. Somebody posted a Reddit thread saying days have fish in them, so now Google replies saying that. Google just blindly trusts any poster on Reddit (not a joke).
@GossiTheDog Just like i trust random guys on random forms from 2001

@GossiTheDog an interesting failing, and your explanation is concerning. Thank you for sharing.
This reminded me that fish is spelled ghoti: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghoti Gh as in enough o as in women (tense matters), and ti as in locomotion. -
