@NatureMC And they have also been subjected to contemporary colonial crimes by Denmark.
It’s perfectly possible to keep two thoughts in one’s head at the same time: it would be an unfathomable crime for the US to invade Greenland, and Denmark is a colonial power who should not exercise power over Greenland.
@ahltorp I understand your objection, especially that one can think two thoughts at the same time! My linked article speaks about that Danish colonisation and racism.
On the other hand, I fear that a sideshow of arguments could give the American government - which cannot think two thoughts at once without delirium - evil ideas. Imagine if they were to play the role of ‘liberators’. The Nobel Prize addict, you know ...
-
@Firlefanz @anneapplebaum Of course it’s violently repulsive to even think of the US invading Greenland, so I get that part, but ”Danish” is not a relevant description of the typical Greenlander.
Agreed. Sadly, that just means the invaders would treat Greenlanders even worse, because they are not white.

"Donald Trump now genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him. Also, he really is maniacally, unhealthily obsessive about the Nobel Prize."
@anneapplebaum you know, I saw how it unfolded in Russia. I remember Putin's sweet songs about democracy and shared values - he had very good speech writers. For a very long time, he tried to maintain a solid image.
Now it's so bizarre seeing how blatantly inadequate Trump is, how fast he is moving, and how little people seem to care.

@anneapplebaum Not meaning to be overly nerdy, but Norway does not host the Nobel prize, Sweden does. How much does he want to display his ingorance?
To be more nerdy:
Unless the other Nobel Prices the selection for the Nobel Peace Price is done by a Norwegian committee, the award ceremony is held in Oslo, Norway -

The peace prize is done by a Norwegian committee. The others are done by Sweden. I was ignorant. Thanks for correcting me.
This still leaves open as to what the Nobel prize has to do with Denmark.
I expect him to demand that Australia give him the Alps in the near future.

They are showing him AI generated videos that he doesn't know are AI, but he also has had trouble distinguishing fiction from reality for years.

@anneapplebaum so many things were meant to be that. The rape accusations. The mocking disabled people. Every other sentence out of his mouth. The riots, the insurrection, the taking WH documents, the nepotism, the more rape allegations and clear proof, the lies, the stealing, the wall, the Files, murdering people in open water, pals with Putin, the Gaza strip video, the everything
It goes on and on and on and nothing changes
@noodlemaz @anneapplebaum I hear what you’re saying — many of these issues have been widely reported and debated, and for a lot of people they seriously undermine trust and accountability. It’s exhausting when the list keeps growing and yet consequences seem limited. That frustration is understandable, even if people disagree on interpretations or responsibility.

@Melissa37 @anneapplebaum lest we forget the email from the evidence stack that places him at the scene of an infanticide and the covering up of said crime.
Every accusation a confession. Every single one. Thousands dead and missing after ICE has disappeared them.
MILLIONS dead because he gave the wheels of government spending to Elon fucking Musk, who dismantled USAID. He's a mass murdering tyrant. That people just let this stuff happen is unconscionable. -
@AnneTheWriter1 @anneapplebaum please don't use the dementia hashtag, it is for people caring for family and seeking information.
My apologies. I will remove the hashtag for the disease itself, but not for Donald's nickname. I've seen four relatives go through it, and it terrifies me that no one in the media is even talking about it and no one in power is trying to stop him. Everyone needs to quit ignoring it with him.

I would like to know what answer he expects from the Prime Minister. I fear that the fate of the world now depends on what answer he receives...

@mcm_63 @anneapplebaum
Regardless of how you voted, the USA deserves to be Giant Asteroid'ed out of existence for producing Donald Trump in the first place. -

@anneapplebaum Why did the media stop asking about Epstein?

@anneapplebaum I love „There are no written documents“ when there is a 1916 document signed by US representatives stating that the US does not object to Denmarks control over all of Greenland.

@NatureMC Yes, that fear is very understandable, and what you say is something that has to be taken into account.
There is, however, a very real threat that Denmark will use this situation to increase their grip on Greenland and downplay the recently unveiled horrible stories of, for example, forced contraceptives, for just the reason you mention, not to give arguments to the American government.

@anneapplebaum To Trump, the Nobel represents adoration, which is something he never received as a child, never as a husband, never as a father, never as a businessman. He thinks that if he can just get that adoration as a world leader, it will make up for all he never got.

Republicans in Congress should REMOVE HIM
@Ultraverified @anneapplebaum "cancer should fight itself"
Thinking that Trump is anything more than the most visible symptom of a disease is *dangerous* because it excuses the people actually making these decisions. That's not Trump. He's a useful idiot. Republicans won't remove him because *he is doing what they want him to do*.

@anneapplebaum I used to think "running a country" required a decent amount of intelligence, skill, empathy, etc. Boy, was I ever wrong!

@anneapplebaum I wonder if he really believes he ended eight wars. He just may.
@Eetschrijver @anneapplebaum He does; he still believes he won the 2020 election; his capacity for self-delusion is endless.
