@misjavanlaatum @anneapplebaum @IndyRichard It does if you want to do it properly
@johan @anneapplebaum @IndyRichard very true!

@anneapplebaum I wonder if he really believes he ended eight wars. He just may.
@Eetschrijver @anneapplebaum He does; he still believes he won the 2020 election; his capacity for self-delusion is endless.

I'm just never sure when he's the genuine believer and when he's the con man.

@anneapplebaum@Eetschrijver @anneapplebaum I think it's both, to the extent that is possible. He repeats his lies over and over, to convince others.

@FrancoisPrague @anneapplebaum execute...

@anneapplebaum To Trump, the Nobel represents adoration, which is something he never received as a child, never as a husband, never as a father, never as a businessman. He thinks that if he can just get that adoration as a world leader, it will make up for all he never got.
@philpetree @anneapplebaum Plus he needs it to show he is better than President Obama.

"Donald Trump now genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him. Also, he really is maniacally, unhealthily obsessive about the Nobel Prize."
@anneapplebaum "Republicans'" suicidal final sin:
They put a spiteful, malicious, criminal, last-stage demented bitch into United States presidential office.
A stain hardly ever going to go away.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/apr/19/death-of-republican-party-consequences

#DementiaDon has Frontal Lobe Dementia. That means he has lost what little inhibitions and control he once had, and can easily become obsessed with bizarre things.
#Dementia never ends well-- especially if the patient is allowed to keep working, and treated in the media and by those under them as if they are sane and reasonable.
#JDVance and the #GOPmajority will NEVER #invokethe25th to stop him. The Dems need to step up and do that for him, and stop WAITING for the midterms-- Donald's Dementia is too advanced and progressing quickly. People are going to die-- and already have. The world CANNOT wait until then.
@AnneTheWriter1 @anneapplebaum Please explain precisely HOW the Democrats could invoke the 25th Amendment. Doesn't the 25th Amendment require the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to take action? The vice president is a Republican, along with most cabinet members.

@anneapplebaum I wonder if this is what finally causes a quiet military regency over Trump bc torching NATO is fucking up the Military Industrial Complex bag. USA needs NATO to drum up "crises" so we can sell lots of overpriced weapons systems. It's literally the only thing resembling an industrial policy the US has left.
Not getting my hopes up, but it would be darkly funny.

@anneapplebaum Jan 6th was supposed to be the last straw… impeach, remove, convict.
@FrancoisPrague @anneapplebaum November 5th, 2016 should've been the last straw.
-
@FrancoisPrague @anneapplebaum What will it take for someone in the US to remove Donald Trump from office, either legally or illegally? Isn't it obvious that the position is way beyond his physical and mental capabilities, and he is harming the interests of the United States?
@IndyRichard @FrancoisPrague @anneapplebaum
I think only a MASSIVE midterm loss MIGHT convince #Republicans that sticking with #DisasterDon is a loser.Then again, they are SO deep in denial, they'd declare a huge loss to be PROOF of election fraud.

The problem with that is Vance would not be an improvement, or Johnson either. It's true that cheeto is just spouting whatever pops into his head. But the ones making policy are the heritage foundation with their plan to overthrow the constitution & install a white nationalist christo-fascist govt. They're the real danger, but their coup is diffuse, very wealthy, and own the courts. Short of extra judicial
executions, nothing will stop them. -

I don't know that they could. But surely there must be something they can do besides sit around saying "tisk, tisk" and waiting for November. Even if they put forward articles of impeachment or something else, knowing it could never pass, at least it would be SOMEthing more than what they're doing now.
They can at least begin to nag on the topic and not let the media ignore his Dementia.

It is something journalists have to do. They can't just say "You *** --- *** fell for it", they have to stroke the ego of the reader. "Now it is safe to lift the veil and see the real world."

@eq @anneapplebaum Bullshit. This isn't the reader's fault & it isn't lifting a beacon of truth - it's a red carpet of words for fascists to walk over. It obfuscates, it prolongs, it normalizes.
It's about sounding smart & above-it-all while the world burns & it can fuck all the way off & so can your blame shifting. The only egos this strokes is the writer themselves & the people like them & they carry far, FAR more blame for this than "everybody *broad gesture*".
