I actually have a tough time picking which one is the best, but I do know which one is the worst. Not sure anyone besides @infernusgoatus is aware of my opinion here though

@jaredwhite @wicche we have dewberries in the south, which are blackberries grow in a briar tangle rather than on a neat little bush. Is their extra deliciousness an illusion caused by the extra effort required to gather them? Don't know, but they're the best imo
@funkula @jaredwhite we have dewberries up here too! In fact a bunch of them grow behind our house.

@beandreams @infernusgoatus okay, that's a good contender, but considering all four berries on their year-round merits the worst berry in the list is blueberry. Because I like a good tiny, almost sour blueberry, and when they're fresh off the bush all blueberries are also great, but they're the one berry that I cannot STAND cooked. The flavor transmutes in a totally unacceptable sickly-sweet way.

@arisummerland grew up with those outside my house, would forage them as a kid to make jam. They're an all timer

When my brother-in-law was new to the family he mentioned that his favourite fruit was blueberries and apparently (according to my amused partner) my sister and I made horrified faces at him until he clarified, "you know, wild ones when you pick them in the woods". Close call

But in a pinch raspberries are awesome (and make a good crisp when combined with saskatoons and rhubarb)

Also, Huckleberries are another excellent berry.

The problem here is that any of these is better than the other three when it's straight off the plant if they're not. I did manage to vote for blackberries because I've eaten more of those fresh than the others, but raspberries off the bush in the Shenandoah Valley in the summer are just perfect as well.
