@wicche Saskatoon Berry (also known as Pacific serviceberry, western serviceberry, western shadbush, or western juneberry).
But in a pinch raspberries are awesome (and make a good crisp when combined with saskatoons and rhubarb)

Also, Huckleberries are another excellent berry.

The problem here is that any of these is better than the other three when it's straight off the plant if they're not. I did manage to vote for blackberries because I've eaten more of those fresh than the others, but raspberries off the bush in the Shenandoah Valley in the summer are just perfect as well.

When my brother-in-law was new to the family he mentioned that his favourite fruit was blueberries and apparently (according to my amused partner) my sister and I made horrified faces at him until he clarified, "you know, wild ones when you pick them in the woods". Close call

@idzie not wrong, I grew up foraging those in the back woods for jam

Especially the wild strawberry: small, close to the ground and packing more flavour than is possible.
@CTHW we discovered those fruiting in our backyard this past summer and we lost our minds, especially because other animals got to most of them first
