May 17th, 1917, the Norwegian Constitution Day, "Norway's Birth Day", the perfect time time to unveil the statue of one of our national bards, Bjørnstjerne #Bjørnson. Apparently his widow didn't like the statue, erected 7 years after his death.
Even though Bjørnson disliked #nynorsk (sorry, some of us can't let that go), he was an important gathering force for the burgeoning independent state of Norway in his time, among other things he wrote our national anthem, «Ja, vi elsker». He was also an early ally for #LGBTQ, and in 1891, he wrote that homosexuality shouldn't be a crime.
