This is not safe. Can work, but can also not work as floppy manufacturers don't really care about optical consistency. Please do not recommend anyone do this -

I'm pretty sure focused solar IR on the retina could also be bad. And you wouldn't blink because you wouldn't feel it.

@saustrup Similarly you can make a janky diy IR filter for b&w shots using the film as a lens gel on your camera. Given the results of said filter I don't know that I'd count on it to protect my vision looking directly at the sun.
