Being ignorant and aggressive about it when you can literally spend 5 seconds and learn something? Ok.
And they're wrong about so many things here.
I get that they don't know who I am or what I do.
But they also have no clue what they don't know anything about? That's so very weird to me, who as spent their entire life learning about things and learning about how I learn things.

@thebiologistisn Those who don't have to be "the person who knows" tends to learn more and those who always feel the urge to be that "knowing person" close of their boundaries to new information. Paradoxically a very effective way to not become knowing! Anyway, now I'm curious to read the whole original thread and learn something new about climacteric fruit. Is it that breeding developed that trait in bananas? I was living the world where some fruit were and other fruits were not climacteric.

@thebiologistisn isn't that why we all get to eat Cavendish bananas, because they are the only ones that travel really well and can be shipped green to ripen once in the shops

@malte The few banana varieties that have ever been usable for international shipping have climacteric ripening. It allows them to be picked early, stored, moved, and then ripened intentionally using the plant hormone ethylene, so they're ready for grocery stores.
Banana varieties that don't ripen like this have to be harvested when ripe and have a relatively rigid count-down once they're cut from the plant. The difference comes down to variations in genetics regulating the ripening process.

️ I'd block him, lifes too short@Florapis The amusing thing about bananas is that most of the seedless ones we eat were found in the wild in that state, the result of natural hybrids between diploid and tetraploid wild species.
It's only very recently that people have started intentionally breeding new edible varieties.
