Political types will argue, but gratuitous meanness is not the norm, and Nazis are not welcomed.
Follow anyone who piques your interest to get started but feel no obligations to continue if your interests change. Because there is no algorithm feeding you posts, the more folks you follow the more posts you'll see.
Also hashtags are great for letting others with similar interests find you, and you them. I just stumbled into a bunch of bass players - not my thing but they all were having a blast. Someone I follow boosted the original post so I saw it.
