A great little story about learning to #repair and #make things. It's not just about woodworking like the title suggests. Pick something. Learn how to do it. try it. It's very satisfying.

    I absolutely LOVE woodworking https://a.wholelottanothing.org/i-absolutely-love-woodworking/

When the pandemic started, I started working on my own cars, at first following guides to install various parts but eventually learning (mostly via YouTube) how to do suspension and drivetrain maintenance on my own. Once I knew how a car's suspension really worked, it unlocked an entire world of understanding for me. I felt like I finally figured out on a fundamental level how mechanical machines operated. Soon after, I could diagnose broken gadgets and fix them.

@exador23 On that note I absolutely recommend Adam Savage's book "Every Tool's a Hammer" - it's a lot about that same thing; the agency you gain in the world & your own life & the joy that comes from it when you increase your knowledge & experience in the broader field of making, whether you maintain your car, build models, sew clothes, paint pictures, make music or furniture...
