When I was a child we learned about them in history class; we have straight-up ROBBER BARONS devastating the earth once again. But exponentially worse this time.

We're in a second Gilded Age and the oligarch objective is to control enough information and infrastructure to create a permanent monopoly based on State and individual dependency.
Individuals and govts can make a stand by no longer using US big tech, but how many people are prepared to give up their Facebook, Windows, WhatsApp, Apple, Google, Android, AWS, GCP, Azure, Xitter, BSky, Insta, ...?

But yeah they were ROBBER BARONS all of them
and to this day King Charles exempts himself from any law he doesn't like (including discrimination law, environmental protection etc)

@nickofnz There should have never been private persons who are worth billions. It went wrong when we didn't properly tax those with millions banked. You don't need a billion to survive. That kind of money breeds madness in a person.
@RandamuMaki @nickofnz I wouldn't say that the money breeds madness - instead, I'd argue that madness - psychopathy - is a highly effective way to make that kind of money. If we don't tax the disgustingly rich, we rewaed the psychopaths.

@nickofnz While it is indeed true that the rich are robbing us all, the global economy has hit the wall and will shrink no matter what. We have exceeded the global ecological growth limits, ecosystems are breaking down all over the planet, we're running low on a lot of non-renewable resources, and we're consuming renewable resources faster than they grow back, destroying the capacity of the natural systems to provide those resources in the future.
