As far as I can tell, Thunderbird (yes, got it working) is basically a customized Firefox web browser - so why does it display HTML emails so badly?

As far as I can tell, Thunderbird (yes, got it working) is basically a customized Firefox web browser - so why does it display HTML emails so badly?

Goes without saying that I've checked the email in other apps & webmail, where it renders just fine - I have similar problems with e.g. emails laid out in multiple columns, which TB also can't handle while the others show it just fine.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
